Abstract

Dr. John Allen Clements is an American physician and physiologist best known for his groundbreaking research in pulmonary surfactant, a substance critical for optimal lung function in newborns. He is widely recognized for saving millions of premature infants’ lives by identifying and characterizing the role of surfactant in preventing neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (RDS).
