Abstract
Dr. Nevin S. Scrimshaw was a visionary in the field of nutrition science. He was born on January 20, 1918, Milwaukee Wisconsin. He earned his undergraduate degree in biology. He also obtained a Ph.D. in physiology and master’s in public health. His most significant contributions were in the area of nutrition and its critical role in child health development. Over his career he authored more than 20 books and hundreds of scientific papers. Work related to child Development and Pediatric Care, protein-energy malnutrition. He founded the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP). He brought together multidisciplinary teams including doctors, biologists, and public health experts to solve problems. Low cost vegetable-based protein supplement from corn, his resilience and leadership earned him widespread recognition including the World Food Prize in 1991, often referred to as the Nobel Prize for food and agriculture. He Chosen to focus on malnourished children because he cared about human suffering, his impact was global, not limited to his own country. Key Message: His work lead to save lives through better policies, innovative food supplements and integrated health strategies. He works for malnourished children.
