Abstract

Dr. Eddie Martucci, a biomedical scientist and entrepreneur, has played a transformative role in redefining treatment approaches for pediatric Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) through digital therapeutics. As the co-founder and CEO of Akili Interactive, he spearheaded the development of EndeavorRx, the first FDA-authorized prescription video game designed to enhance attention in children aged 8–12 years with ADHD. Grounded in neuroscience, the therapy utilizes adaptive algorithms and multisensory stimuli to target cognitive control networks in the brain. Martucci’s work is notable not only for its scientific innovation but also for introducing a non-pharmacological, child-friendly treatment option with minimal side effects. Clinical trials, including randomized controlled studies published in The Lancet Digital Health, have demonstrated significant improvements in attention, validating the therapeutic potential of digital interventions. Despite initial skepticism from clinicians, regulatory challenges, and limited investor confidence, Martucci’s persistence led to a landmark FDA authorization in 2020, establishing a new paradigm for software-based medicine.
