Abstract

Indian healthcare market was about $180 billion in FY 2023 and is projected to $320 billion worth by FY 2028 at 12% CAGR as per Bains report. India is currently facing epidemiological transition and with rise in life expectancy, lifestyle and non-communicable diseases. Accessibility and affordability is the real challenge in the healthcare services. Objective of the study is to delves into policy documents, programmatic updates, industry analyses and peer reviewed research from 2020 and 2025 for understanding India’s digital health trajectory, as twenty-first century is all about integrating the extensive use of desktop personal computer, internet and mobile phone that leads to e-health that gradually focused on health, instead of treating disease in the last 5 years (notably in the COVID-19 pandemic years of 2020–2022) and extend the reach of care and achieving higher healthcare standards using DHT (Digital Health Technology). Result found that there were four categories of public indicators in digital health category, such as tel-consultation volumes from the National e-Sanjivani Service, mental health helpline utilization via tel-MANAS, routine immunisation digitization through U-WIN and registry-driven interoperability metrics under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Now, India is moving rapidly towards healthcare 4.0 where ‘Health is More than Healthcare approach’ that encompasses spiritual, mental and emotional components of health. If India can develop safe and reliable digital health infrastructure, it will not only improvise the accessibility and affordability of health care services but also will achieve SDG-aligned, people centered care ecosystem.
