Abstract

Tobacco consumption has become a significant public health concern in India, with the country ranking third in global tobacco production. The alarming trend of tobacco use is prevalent across various demographics, with approximately 33 crore Indians consuming tobacco every year. This translates to 6.46 lakh kg of tobacco being consumed daily, with a substantial proportion of users being women. The widespread use of tobacco in various forms, including cigarettes, hookah, beedi, khaini, and gutka, has severe implications for public health, contributing to a significant burden of cancer, asthma, and heart attacks. Effective measures are necessary to curb the growing trend of tobacco consumption in India.
