Robert Geoffrey Edwards revolutionised modern reproductive medicine through the development of in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), enabling fertilisation of human oocytes outside the body and offering a scientific solution to infertility. His work, in collaboration with Patrick Steptoe, led to the birth of the first IVF baby in 1978 and established the foundation for assisted reproductive technology (ART).
