Jean Piaget was born on August 9, 1896, in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. His father was a professor of medieval literature, while his mother was deeply religious and prone to psychological difficulties. From childhood, Piaget displayed an insatiable curiosity for the natural world. At the age of 11, he published his first scientific paper on the albino sparrow, marking the beginning of his career as a scholar. Among the greatest scientific minds of the twentieth century, Dr. Jean Piaget stands as one of the most influential figures in the field of psychology and education. A Swiss psychologist, Piaget devoted his career to understanding how children think, learn, and develop. His work revolutionized child psychology, pedagogy, and cognitive science, earning him recognition as the “father of child development.” I chose Jean Piaget for this essay because his ideas continue to shape how teachers, parents, and doctors understand childhood development. As a medical student interested in pediatrics and education, I believe his work provides a bridge between scientific knowledge and practical applications in child care. Learning about Piaget means learning about the very foundation of pediatric development and education.
