Background: Dr Cecily Delphine Williams was a pioneering Pediatrician whose work reshaped global understanding of child health and nutrition. She is best known for identifying and naming kwashiorkor, a severe protein deficiency disorder affecting young children in low-resource settings. Aim: To highlight the life, scientific contributions, and humanitarian philosophy of Dr Williams, and to explore the relevance of her work for modern medical students. Methods: A narrative review of historical sources, published medical literature, and biographical accounts related to Dr Williams’s life and contributions was conducted. Key themes were synthesised, including early life, scientific achievements, advocacy, challenges, and impact on global health. Results: Williams discovered kwashiorkor, integrated cultural knowledge into clinical practice, and challenged unethical infant-formula marketing through her celebrated “Milk and Murder” speech. Her work influenced policies of the World Health Organization (WHO) and remains foundational in maternal and child health. Conclusion: Dr Williams stands as a model of scientific insight, compassion, and ethical courage. Her legacy continues to guide Pediatric and public health practice, emphasising advocacy for vulnerable populations and respect for indigenous knowledge. Key Message: Dr Cecily Williams demonstrated that medical progress is achieved not only through scientific discovery but also through empathy, cultural awareness, and moral courage. Her work teachesfuture clinicians to listen to communities, challenge injustice, and prioritise the health of vulnerable children.
