Background: Conventional dressing of choice is a cotton bolster or sterile compressive dressing that is used for at least five days. The negative pressure wound therapy using reticulated open cell foam dressing conforms to the wound geometry by addition of negative pressure and promotes skin graft adherence while removing exudates and oedema from surrounding tissues. Methodology: An observational comparative study was conducted in our department from November 2016 to may 2018. A total of 60 patients were included and the subjects were divided in 2 study groups Group-A i.e. standard dressing group and Group-B i.e. negative pressure wound therapy group of 30 patients each. Initially, during intra-operative period, size of the grafted area was measured in surface area using graph sheet method. Photographs were taken intra operatively and on post operative day 7, Percentage of graft take was measured on post operative day 7. Besides these some other variables were also compared. Result: In Group B, the mean area of grafted wound was 396.70 cm2 with standard deviation of 94.57 and the graft take on postoperative day 7 was 391.83 cm2 with standard deviation of 93.23 showing the statistically significant difference when compared group A. None of the patients in Group B had shown any evidence of haematoma/seroma. Mean numbers of days of hospital stay were less in Group B. Conclusion: Negative pressure wound therapy is effective in improving the percentage of split thickness graft take.

Hematoma and infection are the greatest enemies of a plastic surgeon. Various hemostatic agents are used in surgery. From application of direct pressure, use of tourniquets, ligatures, electro cautery, laser coagulation medical science is now exploring the use of various topical hemostatic agents. Here we share our experience with the use of micro porous polysaccharide hemospheres for hemostasis of split thickness graft donor site in 6 patients.

Wound measurement is an important aspect of wound management. Periodic wound measurement helps in assessing the effect of treatment protocol and in deciding further intervention. Digital Planimetry (DP) is an important tool for wound measurement. Using a square grid, digital image photograph and the Image-J software, the digital planimetry score is calculated and wound is assessed and treatment protocol finalised. Various dermatologic diseases came into notice worldwide after the COVID-19 pandemic. The stress and the anxiety associated with the COVID-19 pandemic have been seen as the causal factor behind many psychosocial dermatologic diseases, such as psoriasis, chronic urticaria, and alopecia areata. It has been seen that there is increasing likelihood in the occurrence of alopecia area after the COVID-19 outbreak which is usually observed after months of contracting the illness. Alopecia areata is described as a non scarring type of autoimmune hair loss ,recurrent in nature. As emotional stress burden increases, the incidence of alopecia increases, and after the occurrence of alopecia , psychiatric disorders are often triggered. Given the importance of psychiatric disorders in alopecia, after the COVID-19 pandemic, there are numerous stress factors like travel ban, social distancing, gathering, and conveyance restrictions starting to take place. Henceforth this is clearly suggesting that there is a vicious circle between alopecia and psychiatric disorders. There is a high need to study deeply in order to derive any conclusion establishing the relationship between the Alopecia and COVID-19 pandemic. Hypertrophic scars are a result of exuberant wound healing following skin injury and deposition of excess collagen. Despite the introduction of a wide variety of management protocols for hypertrophic scars, no definitive treatment has been established with optimal clinical results so far. Angiotensin II activation by angiotensinconverting enzyme (ACE) is a significant mediator in wound healing and collagen production. In this study we aim to evaluate the role of topical enalapril in hypertrophic scar treatment.

For many years, telemedicine has been utilized to give treatment, education, and training, particularly to healthcare workers in remote places and nations with low resources. However, during the SARS COVID-19 pandemic, when the lockdown necessitated the use of technology more than ever, telemedicine came to popularity. Tele-education is a subset of Telemedicine that has aided millions in continuing their education over the previous two years. Photographs, audio, video, or a combination of these are the most common telemedicine formats, and they can be captured with portable cameras, mobile phones, or computers. Tele-education offers tools and approaches for improving teaching. Frequent updates and introduction of newer technologies are required to make Tele-education better, more cost effective, and user friendly, especially now that we anticipate future Pandemic wave surges. In this study, we share our experience of using Panoramic view, which can take wide angle images, in our daily clinical practice (ward, OPD, dressing room, operation theatre) and in TeleEducation. The study is unique in that there is relatively little information on the use of wide-angle lenses in clinical practise and Tele education.
