I am Dr. Vinod Kumar, a dedicated academic leader and library professional with over 28 years of extensive experience in the domain of Library and Information Science. My career trajectory at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology (GJUS&T), Hisar, has led me from Assistant Librarian to my current dual role as the University Librarian and Chairman of the Department of Library and Information Science. This leadership position, which I have held since 2019, builds upon a foundational journey that began in 1995. Academically, I possess a robust background, holding multiple Master’s degrees in Economics and Library Science (M.LIB.), culminating in a Ph.D. from Haryana School of Business, GJUST, Hisar. My doctoral research focused keenly on the "Management of Service Quality in Libraries and Information Centres," which has become a driving force in my professional endeavors.
My professional focus has been deeply rooted in the transition and transformation of traditional library services into sophisticated digital and user-centric information hubs. Since 2001-02, I have been instrumental as the In-charge of Library Automation at GJUS&T, successfully turning the University Library into a premier automated institution in Haryana. This involved developing a robust network, implementing a Webpac system for remote access, and establishing specialized labs, including one for research databases and another for SC/ST students. Furthermore, I have served as the key contact person for major consortia like INFLIBNET and INDEST since 2002, demonstrating my consistent commitment to maximizing e-resource accessibility for the academic community.
My expertise and research have made a significant contribution to the field, evidenced by my authorship of five books and numerous research papers published in leading national and international journals and conference proceedings. These publications cover crucial contemporary themes, including the development of institutional repositories (DSpace), the usage level of electronic resources (Emerald, IEEE, J-Gate), the shift from traditional to digital reference services, and the measurement of service quality using models like SERVQUAL. Through my roles in teaching, administration, and research, I am continuously working to ensure that our libraries remain dynamic, future-ready institutions that actively support the evolving research and learning needs of the academic community in the digital age.
