Introduction

I am Dr. Balasaheb T. Govardhane, Professor of Anaesthesiology at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Navi Mumbai. I completed my MBBS from Seth G.S. Medical College, Mumbai, and MD in Anaesthesiology from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and Hospital.

I have over 15 years of experience in clinical anaesthesia, postgraduate teaching, research and critical care. My clinical expertise includes anaesthesia for major oncological, neurosurgical, cardiac, thoracic, transplant, orthopaedic, paediatric, obstetric and trauma procedures. My areas of special interest include oncoanaesthesia, neuroanaesthesia, regional anaesthesia, critical care and trauma management.

I am actively involved in postgraduate education, simulation-based training, ATLS, airway management and academic CME programmes. I have several publications in peer-reviewed journals, including original research and case reports, and have presented papers and posters at national conferences. I have also received awards for academic presentations and was honoured with the Best Doctor Award at Dr. D. Y. Patil Hospital in 2022 and 2024.

I am passionate about teaching, continuous learning and advancing safe, evidence-based anaesthetic practice, with a particular interest in integrating clinical expertise, academic research and practical training to improve patient care.
