De quervain’s syndrome is inflammation of tendons on the side of the wrist at the base of the thumb. It can be brought on by strain injury to the extensor pollicis longus and abductor pollicis tendons. Treatment for de quervain’s syndrome includes combination of rest, splinting, ice, anti – inflammatory medication, and cortisone injection. But permanent relief can be attained only by surgery to release the tendon sheath followed by occupational therapy to assist with healing of the disease.

While myriad forces are changing the face of contemporary healthcare, one could argue that nothing will change the way nursing is practiced more than current advances in technology. Indeed, technology is changing the world at warp speed and nowhere is this more evident than in healthcare settings. This article identifies seven emerging technologies that will change the practice of nursing; three skill sets nurses will need to develop to acquire, use, and integrate these emerging technologies; and four challenges nurse leaders will face in integrating this new technology. The role of technology in delivering costeffective solutions through technology and eHealth services has been encouraged and health groups have been urged to identify and evaluate suitable eHealth solutions as part of an overall strategy for developing quality care services While increased demand for health care alongside budget constraints are challenging the delivery of health care services.

In countries throughout the world, patient experiences are being monitored in order to obtain information about the delivery and quality of healthcare. Patient experiences can be defined as a reflection of what actually happened during the care process and therefore provide information about the performance of healthcare workers. It refers to the process of care provision. In many countries assessing patient experiences is part of a systematic survey programme. Evidence based guidelines for management of signs and symptoms of respiratory tract in children.The purpose of the guideline is to implement Evidence based guidelines for management of signs and symptoms of respiratory tract infections in children. This guideline aims to improve the knowledge and practice of staff nurses and enables them to take measures to manage signs and symptoms of respiratory tract infections in children. The Objectives of the guidelines areTo Implement the evidence based guidelines for management of signs and symptoms of respiratory tract infections in children, To improve the knowledge of staff nurses for management of signs and symptoms of respiratory tract infections in children, To improve the practice of staff nurses for management of signs and symptoms of respiratory tract infections in children and to reduce incidence of respiratory tract infections in children Implementation of guidelines has both long term and short term outcome. Rossum and Larrobe model is used to prepare the guidelines for this project. The objective of the systematic review is to find the evidence on management of respiratory tract infections in children. The Secondary objectives are to improve the knowledge of staff nurses for management of signs and symptoms of respiratory tract infections in children, to improve the practice of staff nurses for management of signs and symptoms of respiratory tract infections in children and to reduce the incidence of signs and symptoms of respiratory tract infections in children. The type of studies included are Clinical practice guidelines, Systematic reviews on management of signs and symptoms of respiratory tract infections, Randomized controlled trials on management of signs and symptoms of respiratory tract infections, Cross sectional and Expert opinion. The Type of interventioninclude the nonpharmacological management include dietary management, oxygen therapy, Hygiene and nebulizer therapy were included. The heart has plays an important role in understanding the body since antiquity. In the 4thcentury B.C., the Greek philosopher Aristotle identified the heart as the most important pumping of the heart. Cardiovascular disease, one of the noncommunicable diseases, has become a major public health problem in many developing countries. About twothirds of the global estimated 14.3 million annual cardiovascular disease deaths occur in the developing world. The prevalence of cardiovascular in India increased in urban populations, andinrural populations it has almost doubled in the last decade. EECP is merged as one of the newer modalities of treatment of cardiovascular disease. EECP is a nonsurgical therapy for angina, Heart disease, high blood pressure, and other conditions involving poor circulation. It is a noninvasive procedure in which long inflatable cuffs (like blood pressure cuffs) are wrapped around both of the patient’s legs and works by creating collateral circulation around blocked arteries, i.e. it essentially works to create a “natural bypass” around the arteries. EECP therapy many advantages over traditional management of cardiovascular disease and the cost of EECP of therapy is much lesser when compared traditional method of treatment. It has been associated with improved exercise tolerance and myocardial perfusion, as evidenced by nuclear imaging and positron emission tomography. More research will hopefully shed additional light on the mechanism of action and verify the longterm attenuation of symptoms in patients with cardiovascular disease.

Brain dialysis or microdialysis is a minimallyinvasive sampling technique that is used for continuous measurement of free, unbound analyte concentrations in the extracellular fluid of virtually any tissue. Analytes may include endogenous molecules (e.g. neurotransmitter, hormones, glucose, etc.) to assess their biochemical functions in the body, or exogenous compounds (e.g. pharmaceuticals) to determine their distribution within the body. The microdialysis technique requires the insertion of a small microdialysis catheter (also referred to as microdialysis probe) into the tissue of interest. The microdialysis probe is designed to mimic a blood capillary and consists of a shaft with a semipermeable hollow fiber membrane at its tip, which is connected to inlet and outlet tubing. The probe is continuously perfused with an aqueous solution (perfusate) that closely resembles the (ionic) composition of the surrounding tissue fluid at a low flow rate of approximately 0.15ìL/ min. Once inserted into the tissue or (body) fluid of interest, small solutes can cross the semipermeable membrane by passive diffusion. The direction of the analyte flow is determined by the respective concentration gradient and allows the usage of microdialysis probes as sampling as well as delivery tools. The solution leaving the probe (dialysate) is collected at certain time intervals for analysis.

Sexual abuse is one of the most devastating types of child maltreatment, and estimates indicate that it has increased significantly during the past decade. As with all forms of child maltreatment, no universal definition of sexual abuse exists. There are various risk factors which lead to sexual abuse in children. The management of sexual abuse includes Traumafocused cognitive behavioural therapy (TFCBT) and Eye movement Densensitization and Reprocessing.

The word ‘panel’ means a group of experts. The discussion held among these expert members in front of an audience could be called panel discussion. An Experimental research approach was used for this study. Pre testPosttest design was used for this study. Total 34 samples were selected using simple random sampling technique in which 17 were selected for Lecture method and 17 were selected for Panel discussion. The data pertaining to level of knowledge was collected using structured self administered questionnaire on Educational objectives. While comparing both the methods the analysis revealed that there was a significant increase in level of knowledge regarding educational objectives by panel discussion as the mean value increased. Statistically panel discussion was found to be effective as the mean difference was 7.47. The mean difference of lecture method was 6.82 though the p value was 0.015 indicate significant difference. Thus it is clearly evident that panel discussion is more effective than lecture method.

The adolescent period is a time of rapid changes that provides teaching opportunities for shaping health behaviors into adulthood. Hence the study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of simulator assisted teaching on knowledge and practice regarding self breast examination among adolescent girls in selected college, Thrissur. The other objectives of the study were to assess the pre test knowledge and practice score, to correlate the knowledge and practice of adolescent girls and to find out the association of knowledge and practice with selected demographic variables. The design of the study was quasi experimental one group pre testpost test design conducted over 60 adolescent girls selected by using simple random sampling technique. Pre test was done using structured knowledge questionnaire and self reported practice check list. After that the researcher rendered simulator assisted teaching programme regarding self breast examination. Post test was done after 7 days and analysis showed that there was a significant increase in knowledge and practice after rendering simulator assisted teaching programme. The pre and post test mean knowledge score were 14.47 and 26.62 respectively, regarding practice it was 3.976 and 0.0993. The findings also showed that there was no correlation between knowledge and practice (r=0.099ns, p=0.452).The significant association was found with knowledge and practice of adolescent girls with selected demographic variables such as attend education programme regarding self breast examination and previous practice of self breast examination. Thus the study concluded that simulator assisted teaching programme was effective in improving knowledge and practice of adolescent girls regarding self breast examination.

Oral health is essential to general health and quality of life. The study is aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of structured programme on oral hygiene in terms of knowledge among primary school children. Pre Experimental One group pretest posttest design was used. 35 primary school children were selected by non probability convenient sampling. The result shows that the knowledge of primary school children regarding oral hygiene was very poor and structured teaching programme is as effective means to increase knowledge towards oral hygiene among primary School children.

 A pre experimental study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of selected therapeutic exercise on the selfesteem of the elderly at selected old age home in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Totally 40 elderly clients who are residing in old age home were selected by purposive sampling technique. The data was collected by using Rosenberg’s selfesteem scale. Therapeutic exercise consists of combined sessions of walking, jogging, stretching exercise (to increase flexibility and freedom of movement) and strengthening exercise (to build muscle, increase metabolism). The therapeutic exercise sessions were conducted after pretests and continued up to 20 days and posttest was conducted after a week. The study results reveal that, the pretest score of all the respondents (100%) noticed to have low selfesteem. Posttest indicated that 70% of the respondent’s self esteem level has increased from a low level of self esteem to a high level of selfesteem. Further 30% remained in low self selfesteem. The mean posttest self esteem scores of 16.5 of the respondents were significantly higher than the mean pretest scores of 13.75. The calculated’ value (16.353) was more than the table‘t’ value. The study findings concluded that the therapeutic exercise was found to be most effective in the promotion of selfesteem among institutionalized elderly people.

Background: Attitudes of patients and public towards mental illness and treatment is very influencing factor. A comprehensive review of public attitudes toward mental illness is important to educate the public as well, in view of the fact that public also play an important role in helping the patients to overcome their illness. The general trend of studies carried out so far in India indicated lack of knowledge on mental health and mental illness and a tendency to maintain social distance from the mentally ill and to reject them makes its existence felt. Method: Nonexperimental design and descriptive approach was used to conduct the study. The sample size of this study comprised of 100 adults residing in selected community of Gadag. Nonprobability convenient sampling technique was used to draw the sample. A self prepared tool was used to collect sociodemographic data, self reported questionnaires were used to assess the knowledge and Likert’s scale was used to assess the attitude of adults towards mental illness. Informed consent was taken from each participant prior to collection of date and descriptive and inferential statistics were used to calculate vaues. Results: Majority (55%) of the subjects had good knowledge, 42% of adults had average knowledge, only 3% of adults had poor knowledge and none of them had very good knowledge regarding mental illness. Majority (97%) of the adults had favourable attitude, only 03% of adults had moderately favourable attitude and none of the adults were had unfavourable attitudes towards mental illness. Conclusion: Adults of selected urban community had average to good knowledge regarding mental illness and also majority of adults were opined favorable attitude and very few percentage of adults shown moderately favorable attitude towards mental illness. Even though, there a still need to enhance comprehensive mental health literacy and highly positive attitude among general public towards mental illness.

Soy is being considered as possible alternatives to hormone replacement therapy in postmenopausal period. This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of two different quantity of soy flour on gonadotropins in postmenopausal women. The study was done in 75 postmenopausal women. These women were randomly divided into 3 groups (n=25). The study group I was given soy flour 25gm/day and the study group II was given soy flour 45g/day and the control group was given wheat flour 52 gm/day. Fasting blood samples were analyzed for serum Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and FollicleStimulating Hormone (FSH) at the beginning of therapy, 4 and 12 weeks after initiation of therapy. The hormone changes were analyzed statistically by using oneway repeated measure ANOVA and oneway ANOVA. The result showed that in control group the FSH and LH hormones level significant increased (p<0.001) over time. Whereas, in soy groups, serum LH and FSH levels were significantly decreased (p<0.001) over time. It indicated that daily intakes of soy flour either 25g or 45g may decrease the LH and FSH hormones. More so, those in 45g soy flour intake. In addition, the result observed that no correlation between the luteinizing hormone and follicular stimulating hormone in control group as well in soy groups.
