Pain scales are a vital asset in identifying pain levels, intensity and duration, especially for the paediatric population, as they might not be able to properly verbalise their pain, and hence targeted pain management won’t happen. Various paediatric pain scales for paediatrics are FLACC, Wong’s Baker Faces Pain Scale, Comfort Scale, and Poker Chip Tool, & for newborns – NIPS, CRIEScan be followed. Pain scale also helps us to identify pain characteristics like throbbing pain, stabbing pain, etc. Pain scales will provide the pain level data on admission & during the course of the patient’s stay, & by doing assessment & re-assessment using the pain scale, we will come to know the effectiveness of the treatment. Hence knowledge, skills & usage of the paediatric pain scale is the need of the hour, and hence nurses need to be trained & equipped to follow the pain scale in their paediatric patients for providing prompt care in pain management.
 

Background: Good reproductive health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being in all matters relating to the reproductive system. Human beings are beings, it means human beings are capable to reproduce and able to maintain reproductive health. Objective:  1. To assesses the existing knowledge regarding reproductive health among rural adolescent girls by giving pre-test. 2. To evaluate the effectiveness of constructive teaching program regarding reproductive health as measured by gain in posttest. 3. To find out an association between pre-test knowledge scores of rural adolescent girls regarding reproductive health with their selected demographic variables. Material and Methods: A study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of constructive teaching program on knowledge regarding reproductive health among 200 adolescent girls of selected rural PU colleges of Dharwad district. The research design used for the study was pre-experimental, one group, pre-test, posttest design. The demographic Performa were collected from the rural adolescent girls by using structured knowledge questionnaire. Data obtained in these areas were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The study revealed that, the pre-test the knowledge scores of rural girls were 17% had good knowledge, 51% of them had an average knowledge and 32% of them had poor knowledge. Where as in regards with post test, 93% of them had an excellent awareness and 7% of them belonged to average and none of them had poor knowledge. The paired‘t’ value was 29.75* which was more than that of table value. Conclusion-So the study proved and concluded that the constructive teaching program was an excellent tool in improving the knowledge of rural adolescent girls.
 

Background: • ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a common childhood disorder concerning with the narrowed attention span and increased activity of the child, posing significant obstruction for the child to learn and cope with the surrounding. • The intensity of the disorder fades with time but till then, understand the child and acknowledging their condition, is important for both the parents and the care providers  Aim: • This study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder among Third Basic B.Sc. Nursing students in a selected nursing college  Objectives:  • The objective of the study was: To assess the pre-test knowledge regarding attention deficient hyperactive disorder among the nursing students • To assess the post-test knowledge regarding attention deficient hyperactive disorder among the nursing students • To assess the effectiveness planned teaching program on knowledge regarding attention deficient hyperactive disorder among Nursing Student • To find the association between selected background variables and post-test knowledge regarding attention deficient hyperactive disorder among nursing students. • In this study effectiveness of Planned teaching on knowledge regarding   ADHD among nursing students were assessed using structured questionnaire  on knowledge regarding ADHD. • The research design used was one group pre-test and post-test preexperimental design. The knowledge regarding ADHD was assessed before  and after Planned Teaching. • The conceptual framework of the study was based on Roy’s Adaptation model. • The study was conducted among 30 students of third Basic B.Sc. Nursing of selected nursing college using random sampling technique. The data was collected and analysed based on objectives of the study using descriptive and   referential statistics. Result:  • Mean Value of pre-test was 10.7 which increased to 23.33 in post test. The  study revealed that the Planned teaching increased the knowledge on  Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Third Basic B.Sc. Nursing Students  in selected nursing college. Conclusion: • The effectiveness of the planned teaching was independent of all background  and baseline data except attending a seminar/ lecture and having a parent as  a medical professional.  • The study concluded that the planned teaching program can be vital for  imparting proper knowledge among Nursing Students. 

Background of the Study: Breast engorgement is a common and distressing condition experienced by postnatal mothers, particularly during the early stages of breastfeeding. It often leads to pain, discomfort, and breastfeeding challenges. Post-cesarean section mothers face additional barriers, such as physical discomfort and delayed breastfeeding initiation, which increase their risk of engorgement. Lukewarm water therapy, a simple, cost-effective intervention, is hypothesized to relieve breast engorgement by improving circulation and promoting milk flow. Aim: The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of lukewarm water therapy in reducing breast engorgement among postnatal mothers aged 20–30 years who have undergone cesarean sections in a nursing home in New Delhi. Methods: A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was adopted. Thirty postnatal mothers experiencing breast engorgement were selected using purposive sampling. Participants received lukewarm water therapy twice daily for three consecutive days. Breast engorgement levels were measured using a standardized Breast Engorgement Scale before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, with a paired t-test to compare pretest and posttest scores. Results: The results indicated a significant reduction in breast engorgement levels following the intervention (p < 0.05). Mothers reported relief from pain and discomfort, and there was a noticeable improvement in breastfeeding outcomes. Conclusion: Lukewarm water therapy is an effective, non-invasive method to manage breast engorgement among post-cesarean section mothers. It is recommended as a feasible intervention for improving maternal comfort and  promoting successful breastfeeding. Further studies with larger sample sizes and control groups are suggested to validate these findings.
 

Introduction: Acute respiratory infection is the leading cause of mortality in children with majority of death occurring in developing countries and pneumonia is the most serious outcome of ARI in young children according to the national demographic health survey and also the major cause of death. Early prevention and treatment are one of the best ways to lower the cases of acute respiratory infection in children and this can start at home by creating awareness about the home remedies practiced. Keeping this in mind, we formulated research objectives to know the home remedies for acute respiratory infection and to assess the practice among parents. Method of the study: The study we conducted was a descriptive study amongst 241 parents of children between 5-15 years of age using non-probability purposive sampling. They were given selfinstructed checklist which comprised of statements to assess home-based practices. The study was conducted in selected outpatient departments of All India Institute of Medical Sciences Raipur. Results: The analysis of the study was done using descriptive statistics. According to the parents’ response, the results of the study came out nearly 86.72% having poor practice and 0.45% with good practice of home-based remedies of acute respiratory infections. Discussion: According to a study conducted by Sudhir Mishra and his colleagues in New Delhi, usage of honey, ginger, tulsietc was the mostly used home-based practice for prevention and treatment of acute respiratory infections in children. Our study concluded that the usage of ginger/herbal tea, tulsi water, turmeric milk was the mostly used practices by the parents. Conclusion: Adequate practice of parents on home remedies is required for prevention and treatment of acute respiratory infection in children. From the study, the researchers found that many parents believe home remedies are beneficial for the prevention and treatment of acute respiratory infections in children. But in contrary to this they have poor practices in it.
 

Background: Nurses play a multiple role in hospital but the major role is promotion of health, prevention of disease and relieving pain. Developing good relationship of a nurse with the patients for providing comprehensive nursing care is essential. Nurses should have communication skills to maintain therapeutic relationship with patients. This study has assessed the effectiveness of teaching program on communication skills and quality nursing care among pediatric nurses.

Aims & Objectives: To assess the communication practices and factors affecting communication among pediatric nurses. To provide teaching program to nurses so that quality health care can be provided to the patients admitted in the pediatric hospitals.

Material & Methods: This study was an Experimental study (Pretest- Posttest control group design) done to assess the communication skills and quality of health care among pediatric nurses in selected hospitals. The total of 70 pediatric nurses were selected through convenient sampling technique, then they were divided into control (35) and experimental group (35). Pretest and posttest was conducted in both the groups but intervention was given only to the experimental group. The intervention was planned teaching program and educational pamphlet was given. Result: The results showed that there is association between socio-demographic variables and communication skill scores in Experimental Group. There is a statistically significant difference in communication skills between control group and experimental group after the intervention. There is a statistically significant difference in communication skills in experimental group before and after intervention. There is a significant difference in quality nursing care in patients of control and experimental group after the intervention. Conclusion: Therefore, in order to improve the quality of nursing care, training should be given to all nurses to enhance communication skills so that a good relationship between patients and their parents can be developed.
