This provides guidelines for formatting requirements submitted to Red Flower Publications, and instructions on formatting documents (margins, spacing, etc.) and texts (spelling, abbreviations, etc.).

  • Although editors fully understand the additional challenges posed to authors whose original language is not English, we must ask that all manuscripts be reviewed and edited by an native English speaker with expertise in this field before submission
  • Double-spaced
  • 3 cm margins
  • Page numbers
  • Line numbers
  • Clear concise language
  • All components of the manuscript must be in US English
  • Ensure that tables and figures are cited
  • Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format
  • Use international unit systems (SIS) symbols and recognised abbreviations for measurement units
  • Do not punctuate abbreviations, eg, et al, ie
  • Do not first write abbreviations in abstracts and paper
  • Do not specify the number of words. Short articles generally range from 1000 to 3,000 words, and reviews from 3,000 to 7,500
  • Generic drug names are used in titles, text, tables and figures
  • Suppliers of drugs, equipment, or other brand-name materials are cited in parentheses (company, name, city, state, country)
If you use a molecular sequence, you must certify that the data is deposited in a publicly accessible database (such as GenBank) and indicate the database accession number
  • Depositing laboratory protocols on protocols.io is encouraged, where a DOI can be assigned to the protocol. Incorporate a link to the protocol in the manuscript:
    • Describe your step-by-step protocol to the protocol.io
    • Select "Get DOI" to issue a unique DOI (digital object identifier) to your protocol
    • Insert a DOI link in the method section of the manuscript using the format provided by prococol.io: : http://dx.doi.org/10.21088/protocols.io.xxxxxxx (where xxxxxxx is the unique DOI)

At this stage, your protocol can only be viewed by users with links. This allows editors and reviewers to refer to their protocol during the manuscript evaluation. You can make your protocol public at any time by selecting "Publish" on the protocols.io website. Any reference protocol will automatically be published when the article is published.
