I am Themba Titus Sigudu, an accomplished Public Health specialist, researcher, and educator with over two decades of experience bridging the gap between operational epidemiology and academic excellence. Currently serving as an Undergraduate Academic Coordinator and Lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand, I am dedicated to shaping the next generation of health professionals while advancing scientific knowledge.
My academic foundation is robust, anchored by a PhD in Agriculture (UNISA, 2025) and a Master of Public Health in Field Epidemiology (University of Pretoria). This dual focus allows me to approach health challenges through a "One Health" lens, understanding the intersection between human, animal, and environmental health. My technical expertise includes advanced biostatistics and data analysis using STATA, R, and SPSS, as well as GIS spatial analysis.
My career trajectory reflects a deep commitment to public service and education. I spent significant time with the Mpumalanga Department of Health, managing environmental health and disease surveillance, before transitioning into academia at the University of Johannesburg and Wits. As a researcher, I have published extensively in accredited journals on critical topics such as antimicrobial resistance (AMR), infectious disease outbreaks, and water quality.
Beyond research, I am proficient in curriculum development and online learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard). I am driven by a desire to utilize my skills in a dynamic environment where I can lead high-impact research, mentor students, and contribute to public health policy and practice in South Africa.
