I am Dr. K. Silambuselvi, a dedicated academic and professional with extensive qualifications in the specialized fields of Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, and Dietetics. My academic foundation is rooted in a Ph.D. and an M.Phil. in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition from the Tamilnadu Physical Education and Sports University, complemented by an M.Phil. in Women Studies and an M.Sc. in Dietetics and Food Service Management. My multidisciplinary expertise has been formally recognized through national and state-level qualifications, including successful completion of the NET and SET examinations in Home Science. Currently, I leverage this comprehensive background as an Assistant Professor at SRM University in Chennai, a position I have held since October 2014, focusing on educating the next generation of healthcare professionals and researchers.
Prior to my tenure in academia, I garnered significant clinical experience as a practicing dietician, integrating theoretical knowledge with direct patient care. Notably, I served as a Senior Dietician at Global Hospitals and Health City in Chennai from 2011 to 2012, where I specialized in advanced nutritional management. Furthermore, my career includes roles as a Consultant Dietician at KIOT, Karaikudi, and part-time consultancy at Best Hospital, Chennai. This combination of clinical practice and academic research has provided me with a unique perspective, allowing me to translate complex physiological and nutritional science into practical, evidence-based applications for improving health outcomes.
My scholarly work and research output are focused on critical areas of public health, particularly addressing bone health, lifestyle diseases, and nutrition in diverse populations. I have authored numerous peer-reviewed journal publications covering topics such as the effect of physical activity and supplements on bone mass density in post-menopausal osteoporotic women, comparisons of health parameters between rural and urban populations, and clinical studies on low glycemic foods for conditions like gestational diabetes. My commitment to scholarship is further demonstrated by my service as an Editorial Member for two international journals, underscoring my dedication to advancing the scientific understanding that bridges physical activity and optimal nutritional practices.
