It is a privilege to introduce myself as Prof. Dr. Ishrat Jahan Lucky, a dedicated Consultant and Coordinator in the Department of Pediatrics & Neonatology at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital Limited (BSHL). My journey in pediatric medicine is grounded in a strong educational foundation, holding an MBBS, FCPS (Pediatrics), and MD (Pediatrics), which paved the way for a career spanning over two decades focused on the well-being of children and newborns. My commitment is deeply rooted in providing comprehensive, evidence-based care and ensuring the best possible health outcomes for the youngest patients, establishing a professional identity defined by clinical excellence and continuous learning in a highly specialized field.
My clinical path has provided rich, diverse experience across Bangladesh’s premier medical institutions. Early in my career, I spent a cumulative nine years at Dhaka Shishu Hospital, including six focused on the Pulmonology Unit, where I gained comprehensive expertise in managing childhood asthma and chest diseases. This foundation was enhanced by a Clinical Fellowship and Medical Officer role at ICDDRB, specializing in diarrheal diseases and research methodology. Transitioning into leadership and academic roles, I served as Assistant, Associate, and full Professor at institutions like Enam Medical College & Hospital and Central International Medical College. Crucially, I have dedicated significant time to critical care, serving as Chief Consultant for NICU & PICU services at both Care Hospital and Dhanmondi General & Kidney Hospital for several years, reinforcing my specific interest in newborn medicine and Neonatal Intensive Care.
Beyond clinical practice and academia, I actively contribute to advancing pediatric knowledge and practice through research and professional service. My publication record includes impactful studies on topics ranging from neonatal sepsis and the outcome of perinatal asphyxia to the relationship between serum IgE and frequent relapse nephrotic syndrome. Furthermore, I have served as a reviewer for international and national medical journals, including the Indian Journal of Trauma & Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics On Call. I am also proud to have served as a Facilitator for the National Childhood TB program. My ongoing dedication to sharing knowledge, mentoring future specialists, and leading critical care units drives my current role at BSHL, where I continue to focus on delivering high-quality, compassionate care.
