Introduction

I am Dr. Debasis Mishra, a consultant emergency physician in Odisha, India. My clinical practice spans more than fifteen years in tertiary and multi-specialty emergency care. I graduated in medicine from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, Mumbai. Earlier posts were at Apollo Hospitals, AMRI Hospitals and Kalinga Hospital. I currently head Emergency Medicine and Quality at Silicon Hospital, Sambalpur.

Establishing and accrediting emergency departments has been a defining strand of my career. I led Eastern India's first NABHER accreditation and replicated it at a second hospital within twelve months. At Kalinga Hospital I rebuilt a four-bed casualty unit into a fully accredited Emergency Department, redesigning its layout, triage system, clinical pathways and documentation. I am presently commissioning the emergency services of a greenfield hospital. Alongside this I build hospital quality systems, clinical governance frameworks and patient safety programmes. This work informs my interest in triage design, patient flow, departmental throughput and the measurement of care quality. Teaching has been equally central. I led the Diploma in Emergency Medicine training programme, from course accreditation to the supervision of trainees.

As faculty at AMRI Hospitals I supervised more than twenty postgraduate theses, taking candidates from protocol design through data analysis to manuscript preparation. It gave me a close familiarity with study design, methodology and scientific writing. I have authored six peer-reviewed papers in national and international journals. They cover emergency toxicology, acute neurological presentations, disaster preparedness among emergency physicians, and informed consent in acute care.

I have spoken at EMCON, SEMICON and the Asian Conference on Emergency Medicine. Within the Society of Emergency Medicine India I was Founder General Secretary of the Odisha Chapter and later its President from 2022 to 2024. It would be a privilege to serve on the editorial board. I will review manuscripts with rigour, fairness and punctuality.
