Health is a global priority. Health care needs of a country are met through health-related manpower, infrastructure and resources to run and coordinate between these two entities. However, in developing and underdeveloped countries, there is gross scarcity of resources, manpower as well as infrastructure, which adversely affects the health care delivery. In order to compensate the manpower deficits in health care delivery, bridge course has been proposed in India. This article critically appraises the steps to initiate bridge courses in medical education in India.

Fear, misunderstanding, discrimination and social stigma have surrounded epilepsy for centuries. Some of the stigma continues today in many countries and can impact the quality of life for people with the disorder and their families. Non experimental descriptive study included 50 family members of patient with epilepsy attending OPD of Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health, Tezpur, Assam. Self-structured questionnaire was used to assess the myths and misconception related to epilepsy. The myths and misconception related Epilepsy among the family members of patient with epilepsy was assessed where the score is 38, the mean was 27.2 ± 4.49 and range was 19.0. Most of the respondents (96%) answered above 27 whereas only 4% of them respondent score below 27. The association of the myths and misconception related to Epilepsy with the selected demographic variables was assessed by using chi-square test and the finding shows there was no significant association between the demographic variables with the total score on myths and misconception related to Epilepsy at 0.05 significance. The study concludes that the family members of patient with epilepsy have less myths and conception and good knowledge regarding epilepsy. Whereas in certain areas like Epilepsy is uncommon, Epilepsy is not a medical disorder, Epilepsy result from the punishment from God and person with Epilepsy should not work which requires night duty where people have more misconception and understanding which needs awareness to clear these problems better.

Background of the study: Aging is a natural process and an inevitable one. Old age is a crucial phase where the physiological, psychological and socio-cultural changes in elderly affect their living pattern and their health status too in terms of their quality of life. Objective of the study: To assess the quality of life among elderly living in old age homes and living with their families in selected areas of Uttarakhand. Materials and Methods: A quantitative research approach with descriptive comparative design was used to assess the QOL (quality of life) among elderly living in old age homes and living with their families. The Population consisted of elderly residing in selected old age homes and community area. The study was conducted at selected old age homes and community area of Uttarakhand. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the 164 subjects from the population, i.e. 82 subjects from respective old age homes and 82 subjects from selected community area. Socio-demographic Proforma, WHO QOL-BREF scale was used to assess the QOL among elderly with the help of structured interview method. Results: It was found that Mean score for QOL with S.D for elderly living in old age homes and living with families was 68.47 ± 10.752 and 97.44 ± 8.564 with “t”-value of 19.08 at 0.01 level of significance. Demographic variables, i.e. gender, marital status, educational status, retirement, physical illness were found to be significantly associated with QOL of elderly living in old age homes and those living with their families. Conclusion: Hence the overall findings suggest that quality of life was good among elderly who were living with their families as compare to those who were living in old age homes.

Introduction: Counseling is a process of assistance extended by an expert in an individual situation to needy person. The adjustment difficulties of college students have been an emerging issue. Many studies have proved that the adjustment difficulties like appetite disturbance, concentration problems and depression are most evident in freshmen. To help college students in resolving their adjustment issues, we made efforts in the form of establishing a counseling system to provide intervention to the students, so that their social and emotional problems did not interfere with their academic performances.1 Aim and Objective: The aim and objectives of the study laid down to improve knowledge regarding student counseling among teachers with assess the effectiveness of self-instructional module (SIM) on knowledge regarding student counseling among teachers and to associate the knowledge score with selected demographic variables. Methodology: Based on the objectives of the study, demographic data and structured knowledge questionnaire are prepared to evaluate the knowledge of student counseling before and after treatment (self-instructional module). The data collected was analyzed with the help of descriptive and inferential statistics. Result: The sample consisted of 60 nursing teachers working in the selected nursing colleges of city. The study reveals, mean pretest knowledge score was so less and the mean post-test knowledge was more than pretest which indicates, the self-instructional module on knowledge regarding student counseling among nursing teachers was effective.

Objective: To study the association between demographic profile and motivational factors with internet addiction. Methods: This was a cross sectional study, conducted in 347 internet addicted teenagers (screened through Young’s Internet Addiction Test) with the help of a semi-structured questionnaire consisting of questions related to demographic information and information related to motivational factors for internet use. Data were collected and evaluated through regression model. Results: Both demographic profile and motivational factors had association with internet addiction at 0.05 level of significance. Demographic profile e.g., gender (p= 0.01), duration of approval for internet access (p≤ 0.001), family income (p= 0.001), and motivational factors, e.g. availability of privacy for internet use (p< 0.001), location of internet use (p≤ 0.001), number of gadgets with internet access (p= 0.01) and purpose of internet use (p≤ 0.001) are some of the factors highly associated with severity of internet addiction. Conclusions: Demographic profile and motivational factors are highly associated with severity of internet addiction. Teenagers are vulnerable for internet addiction and efforts should be taken to increase awareness and prevent the problem of internet addiction in them.

Introduction: Rehabilitation is an interdisciplinary specialty that supports a dynamic process of helping an individual to achieve a life that is as independent and self-fulfilling as desired in the physical, emotional, psychological, social and vocational areas of functioning. As a process, rehabilitation is complex, with number of phenomena related to it such as adaptation, stress, adjustment, independence, activities of daily living, self-care, motivation, illness and wellness. Objectives: To assess the rehabilitation needs of the inmates and to seek association between rehabilitation needs and selected demographic variables. Methodology: A quantitative research approach non-descriptive research design was adopted for the study, subjects of the study include 30 inmates from A selected Deaddiction Center, Hyderabad. The data was collected by a structured checklist. A structured tool was developed by the investigator to assess the rehabilitation needs of the inmates. Results: Majority of the inmates 83.3% reported attainment of adequate rehabilitation needs and only 10% inmates reported minimal to no rehabilitation needs fulfilled. Conclusion: The goal of psychiatric rehabilitation is to help disabled individuals to develop the emotional, social and intellectual skills needed to live, learn and work in the community with the least amount of professional support.
