 A 36 year old female patient presented with a painless, solitary, firm, mobile, and slow growing tumor in the left parotid region which was treated with ante grade superficial parotidectomy. Post operative recovery was uneventful with no defect in facial nerve function. The histopathological report was pleomorphic adenoma which is the most common benign parotid tumor.

 The aim of tissue engineering is to develop alternative methods of tissue replacement that eliminate the complications caused by damage to normal tissue traditionally harvested as graft or flaps. Tissue engineering has been made possible by the fusion of clinical surgery, engineering and biology.

The incidence of post-operative small bowel obstruction after standard, open appendectomy was calculated during five year duration at  S. S. Institute and Research Centre, Davangere, Karnataka State. Post-operative small bowel obstruction is one of the adverse effects of appendectomy but its frequency varies from centre to centre. The incidence of small bowel obstruction is significantly high in perforated appendicitis, midline incisions, and chronic appendicular pathology. The midline incision has increased the frequency of post- operative adhesions.This study was conducted to determine the incidence of this complication among our patients who had open appendectomy and identify the factors which may increase the chances of developing such complications.

To  evaluate  safety  and  efficacy  of  ultrasonic  scalpel  in  closure/division  of  the cystic  duct  and  artery,  and  gallbladder  dissection  in  laparoscopic  cholecystectomy  as  a single  working  instrument  compared  conventional  technique  using  clips  and  electro-cautery. Method:  This  study  included  60  patients  with  symptomatic  gallstone  disease  were  randomly  assigned  for  laparoscopic  cholecystectomy  by  either  ultrasonic  shear ( Study  Group   =  30   patients),  and   clip / cautery (Control Group=30 patients). Results: The mean operative time  was  significantly  shorter  in   study group as compare to control group  ( p value =0.002), and  postoperative  pain  scores (VAS)  were  significantly  shorter (p value = 0.001) in first 24 hours  but   no significant  difference was found  in  the  incidence  of  intra-operative & post-operative  complications. Conclusion: Ultrasonic  shear  is  as  safe  and  effective  as  clip/cautery  technique  in achieving  hemo-biliary stasis,  with  shorter  operative  time  with  decreased   pain,  especially  if  used  as  a   sole working  instrument.
