Medical colleges are traditionally teaching the medical history taking and clinical examination to the aspiring medical graduates, which are the fundamental for making the most appropriate diagnosis by reasoning and planning management. Today’s world see a decline in these clinical skills and too much reliance on investigations. There are many factors leading to this deterioration, this article is an effort to look into those aspects and suggest a possible solution to it.

Both real-life problems and resolution efforts are widely seen as the natural early steps in the learning processes in humans and, therefore, the problem-based learning (PBL) strategy is considered as a more powerful teaching method in Biomedicine. Recent biomedical/medical educational systems incorporate teaching methods, including PBL, which support students’ learning by improving their critical thinking, practical skills, knowledge achievement, and continued professional learning. PBL is a self-directed learning and educational approach facilitating the development of learning abilities and skills that are essential for biomedical/medical students, hence there are increasing interest by biomedical and medical schools in developing and adopting PBL approach. The goal of this article is to compare the benefits and limitations of PBL vs. non-PBL approach within biomedical/medical education, describe recent update and improvement of PBL strategy such as hyprid-PBL curriculum and team-based learning method, and review assessment methods for PBL and non-PBL approaches in biomedical/medical education.

Burnout refers to a state of having no energy or enthusiasm because of working too hard or extreme tiredness or a feeling of not being able to work anymore. It is prolonged response to chronic emotional and interpersonal stressors on the job. All over the world, this is being recognised as an important problem among doctors having an impact on quality of care with economic burden for country. It has been recognised in other high performing fields too. Burnout in medical professionals has been recognised for some time now, and it can have an significant impact job performance, lower productivity and quality of life [2]. Interventions done to reduce this problem is scarce and patchy. This review focusses various causes and suggests holistic approach in corporating variety of therapeutic measures.

Background: Research is a pillar in garnering evidence in Health Sciences. It is important to impart clinical and research skills to students persuing medical and allied branches. Physiotherapy treatments are becoming evidenced based and there is a need to train Physiotherapy students in research studies. The study aims to evaluate the interest of Physiotherapy students in research activity as therapists and as academicians. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out at a Physiotherapy College affiliated to a Tertiary care Academic Institute. After obtaining ethical clearance from IEC of institute, UG students of Physiotherapy from I to IV B.P.Th were asked to respond to a locally developed self-administered questionnaire with 11 items related to research. Data was analyzed using Graph Pad version. Results: Total of 133 Physiotherapy students with mean age of 19.84 ± 2.14 completed the questionnaire. On being asked about interest in continuing research after graduation, 54.88% showed their interest while, 44.36% wanted to pursue an academic career. A majority of 96.24% showed clinical practice as important aspect of their training and only 3.75% considered research as their priority. Half of the students who were aware about research being part of their curriculum, 44.30% knew research as an integral part of academic career while 50.37% were not sure about its importance. On being asked about knowledge of publication, small percent were aware about its relevance. Conclusion: Although interest in research is present among students, measures should be taken to orient the students about research activities right from 1st B.P.Th and should be reflected in the curriculum.

Operation theatres play an important role in medical students learning; it is a high pressure clinical setting and offers a unique learning environment at the workplace. Students directly observe the dynamic, stressful clinical settings which has a potential to impart indirect or soft skills to the young learners. Many studies have been done on operation rooms as a teaching environment and ‘theme based learning’. However, there is lack of standardisation among studies. This unique learning environment is also influenced by the work-place culture, among different specialities and different institutions. This article explores these various aspects of operating room learning and suggests ways to further improve them.

Medical students are educated ininnumerable aspects of basic medicine, such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, haematology, immunology, genetics etc. However humanistic aspects of medicine have attracted attention in recent years and is recognised as a important aspect in medicine now. The cultivation of humanities courses, such as medical ethics, medical history, psychology, sociology, and medical history helps to prepare students for their transformation from medical students to skilful medical professionals. It’s importance is being increasingly recognised now all across the globe. Both Western and Indian medical colleges include a variety of medical humanistic classes for undergraduate students. Although education in medical humanistic has undergone many changes, it still requires improvement and educators also need to learn. Humanities will help young minds to become better human being and hence a better doctor. Medical humanity is increasingly being recognised as the soul of health education

Healthcare workers face significant risks of job-related violence. Sustainable solutions for preventing violence against health care providers remain tough to find and difficult to implement. Violence causes immediate and often long-term disruption to interpersonal relationships, the organization of work and the overall working environment. The negative consequences of such widespread violence impact heavily on the delivery of healthcare services, which could include deterioration in the quality of care provided. In developing countries particularly, equal access to primary health care will be threatened if health workers, already a scarce resource, abandon their profession because of the threat of violence. This in turn can result in a reduction in health services available to the general population, and an increase in health costs.
