Soil is primarily composed of various intricate natural elements, including inorganic and organic materials and a wide range of living organisms. Forensic soil scientists focus on analyzing soils that have been disturbed or moved, usually due to human activities. Each soil type has distinct characteristics, such as color, texture, and mineral content, and these variations in the soil make soil valuable evidence to prove the linkage between a suspect and a crime scene. Soil evidence acts as a silent witness even a suspect may be unaware that soil particles can get stuck on them (like shoes, clothes vehicles) or around them (like the carpet in the car). Techniques like microscopy (Stereo binocular microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy) help examine the physical properties of soil like color, and size while chemical analysis techniques like (X-ray powder diffraction) reveal its mineral composition. The main goal of forensic soil analysis is to determine whether the two sample sets came from the same location. This article explores various analytical methods for differentiating soils and offers a comprehensive overview of soil as trace evidence. It is intended to support academics, researchers, and forensic soil scientists in their investigations.

In criminal investigations, forensic bodily fluid analysis is essential since it provides evidence for identifying suspects, reconstructing crimes, and other legal situations. However, a person’s disease states can have a significant impact on bodily fluids’ physical, chemical, and biological characteristics, which could change the results of forensic tests. Diabetes, infections, metabolic diseases, and chronic illnesses are examples of pathological situations that alter the quantities of biomarkers, proteins, DNA, and metabolites, which in turn affect the composition of fluids such as blood, saliva, semen, and urine. These modifications may put traditional forensic techniques to the test, which could result in less reliable results and possibly incorrect evidence interpretation. Accurate DNA profiling may be hampered, for instance, by high blood glucose levels in diabetics or damaged DNA from infections. Similar to this, changes in salivary proteins brought on by oral infections or decreased seminal volume as a result of reproductive diseases might make it more difficult to identify bodily fluids in forensic investigations. Analyte concentrations in fluids are also impacted by illnesses such as liver and renal disease, which might have an impact on toxicological and biochemical tests. By highlighting particular difficulties and their consequences for legal decisions, this study summarizes previous studies to investigate how disease states affect the forensic investigation of bodily fluids. It also looks at new developments in forensic methods that promise to address these issues, like metabolomics and nextgeneration sequencing. The integrity of evidentiary procedures can be preserved and analytical accuracy increased by forensic science through the comprehension and management of disease-related variability. In order to adapt forensic procedures to the complications imposed by disease states, this research emphasizes the necessity of interdisciplinary collaboration and creative approaches

Reconstructing events and supporting alibis are made easier with accurate time determination, which has a big influence on court cases. Developments in biochemical, molecular, and spectroscopic methods over time have opened up new ways to comprehend how bodily fluids including blood, saliva, semen, and perspiration change over time. The current approaches are examined in this review, including oxidative stress markers, protein and RNA degradation, enzymatic degradation, and newly discovered molecular biomarkers. The sensitivity and dependability of methods like spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and forensic proteomics in determining stain age have been emphasized. These methods do not, however, come without difficulties, including biological factors, substrate interactions, and environmental impacts. variability, which may make aging projections less accurate. In order to improve accuracy and consistency, this study also explores the shortcomings of current approaches and suggests potential future possibilities, such as multi-modal analysis and artificial intelligence. The study concludes by highlighting the necessity of internationally recognized procedures to lessen variation in forensic examinations. In order to lay the groundwork for future developments in this crucial field of forensic science, this study attempts to compile the current status of research on body fluid aging and time estimation.

Forensic serology is critical in criminal investigations, providing essential information about biological evidence such as blood, semen, saliva, and other body fluids. Techniques like blood typing, enzyme markers, and immunoassays have traditionally been used to identify and differentiate biological samples. However, these methods often face limitations when dealing with degraded or trace amounts of evidence. In recent years, glycomics, the study of glycans (complex carbohydrates) and their biological functions, has emerged as a promising tool to complement and enhance forensic serology. Glycans are integral components of glycoproteins and glycolipids and play a pivotal role in cell-cell interactions, immune responses, and tissue-specific markers, which are crucial in forensic investigations. Advances in analytical technologies, such as mass spectrometry (MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), have enabled the detailed profiling of glycans, allowing for more precise identification of biological fluids and even individualization of forensic evidence. Additionally, changes in glycosylation patterns in biological tissues can provide insights into postmortem intervals, further enhancing the role of glycomics in forensic applications. Despite its potential, the integration of glycomics into forensic practice faces challenges, including the complexity of glycan structures and the need for standardized protocols. This review aims to examine the current applications of glycomics in forensic serology, explore its future potential, and discuss the challenges that must be overcome for its widespread adoption.

This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of forensic techniques for Android devices, focusing on logical extraction methods and temporary root techniques. As Android smartphones continue to dominate the mobile market, they serve as critical sources of digital evidence in forensic investigations. However, security mechanisms such as application sandboxing, encryption, and file-based access controls pose challenges to forensic data acquisition. Logical extraction techniques provide a non-intrusive approach to retrieving user-accessible data, ensuring evidence integrity while maintaining the device’s operational state. This method is particularly useful for standard forensic investigations where access to unaltered, user-level data is required. Conversely, temporary root methods exploit system vulnerabilities to gain elevated privileges, allowing forensic experts to access deleted and system-level files with minimal modification to the device. This approach is essential for advanced forensic investigations requiring deeper insights into device storage structures. The paper evaluates the strengths and limitations of both methodologies, considering factors such as data accessibility, forensic soundness, and legal admissibility. Additionally, it discusses the evolving landscape of Android security, highlighting challenges introduced by encryption, cloud storage, and anti-forensic techniques. A comparative analysis underscores the importance of selecting the appropriate technique based on investigative needs and device security constraints. The findings suggest that a hybrid forensic strategy beginning with logical extraction and escalating to temporary root techniques when necessary can optimize evidence acquisition while preserving forensic integrity. This study provides forensic practitioners with insights into effective Android forensic methodologies, ensuring comprehensive digital investigations within legal and ethical frameworks.

Background: Sand plays a very important role in the construction of industry and many buildings, which require massive amounts of natural sand for their projects. Sand is the compound material having components of both organic and inorganic with different proportions. In most of the states of India, the natural sand mining was prohibited due to the dredging of rivers beyond a safe capacity. Due to the shortage of natural sand, most of the industries are utilising artificial sand for the construction purpose. Many of the mining companies transport natural sand for completion of their project illegally, which is prohibited for transportation and construction. This study was taken up to identify whether the transport vehicle is carrying soil, artificial sand, or natural sand. Aim: The forensic comparison of the soil, natural sand, and artificial sand plays a very important role in confirming whether the transporting sandy soil was natural or artificial. Objectives: The physical properties play a very important role in the identification and comparison of the soil, natural and artificial sand in forensic applications. Materials: The present article reports the physical properties such as bulk density, particle density, specific gravity, porosity, and particle size distribution of soil, artificial sand, and natural sand. Particle size distribution of the sample was performed using 355 micron, 250 micron, and 180 micron sieve mesh, respectively. Results: The specific gravity, bulk and particle densities of the artificial sand were found to be high compared to soil and natural sand. The percentage of porosity of the natural sand was found to be high compared to soil and artificial sand.
