In India, cancer is becoming a more serious health issue that affects people from all socioeconomic backgrounds and geographical areas. The number of cancer cases recorded each year is    rising, contributing to the rising cancer burden in the nation. Pain is frequently reported during  cancer disease and it still remains poorly controlled in 40% of patients.1 Major progress in the
field includes the recent development of a chronic cancer pain taxonomy now included in the   International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) and the update of the WHO analgesic ladder.2 
 

Surgical Site infections are the commonest occurring Hospital acquired infection.  As Nurses are dedicated towards patient care, they assess the patient throughout their hospital  stay and also are prime to identify signs of client deterioration so the point brought to the concern  through this article is knowledge & training to be given to nurses to prevent & identify signs &   symptoms of SSI.  Nurses have the biggest tool to identify the root cause through Surveillance.  So Knowledge, understanding of the SSI & surveillance skills, aids the Nurses in promoting   a sense of involvement in patient’s speedy recovery, identifying early signs of SSI and earliest  notification to the Surgeon for prompt treatment, maintenance of aspesis throughout, prevent    excessive hospital stay of the patient and to avoid financial & mental turmoil on family members  & patient.
 

There is no indicator in human biology, which tells us so much about the past events and   the future trajectory of life, as the weight of infant at birth.”  Low birth weight is one of the most serious challenges in maternal and child health in both  developed and developing countries. The lower birth weight; the lower survival chance. Main  attention has been given in recent years to ways and means of preventing LBW through good prenatal care and intervention programs by our Indian government. But still rate of LBW baby is higher in our country. So now we are in position to take care of LBW baby in excellent manner.  The staff nurses have great role in reducing neonatal morbidity and mortality through the care  of low birth weight baby because in the initial days they are the prime care givers to the new born  baby. So nurses should have a proper knowledge about the care of LBW babies. According to World Health Organization (WHO), globally about 25 million Low Birth Weight babies are born each year consisting of 17% of all live births. Approximately 16 to 18% neonates  born in developing world are of Low Birth Weight having a weight of less than 2500 gm. Also  it defines very low birth weight infants (irrespective of gestational age) as neonates born less  than 1500 gm and extremely low birth weight2 as less than 1000gm or less. Of these babies,  approximately one third dies before stabilization or in the first twelve hours.  

Essential care of the normal healthy neonate can be best provided by the mothers under    supervision of nursing personnel or basic primary health care provider. About 80% of the   newborn baby should be kept with their mothers rather than in a separate nursery.
Objectives:   1. To assess the level of knowledge among postnatal mothers regarding newborn care   at selected hospital.
2. To find the association between level of knowledge among postnatal mothers   regarding newborn care with their selected Socio-demographic variables.    Design and Method: A quantitative approach using non-experimental research design. 40  Postnatal mothers were selected using simple random probability sampling at selected hospital,  Ranchi, Jharkhand. Self-structured multiple choice questionnaire on socio-demographic variables  and knowledge regarding newborn care were used for data collection.
Result: The study reveals that no postnatal mother (0%) has poor knowledge, 8(20%)  has average knowledge, 25(62.5%) has good knowledge and 7(17.5%) has excellent level of   knowledge. The chi-square value in number of child is 15 at degree of freedom 4, which is greater  than the Table value 9.49 at 0.05 level of significance and previous knowledge is 7.92 at degree     of freedom 3, which is greater than Table value 7.82 at 0.05 level of significance whereas; age,  education, family type, family income and area of residence is found to be not-significant.
