Watchman impant is the latest treatment option available for the patient with atrial fibrillation. This technique helps to prevent stroke in the patients who cannot take anticoagulants because of bleeding complications. Watchman implant is a fabric covered device which is shaped like a parachute. Watchman implant is permanent type of method which expands to close the opening of the left atrial appendage (LAA). LAA appendage is the most common site were most harmful blood clots take place. Watchman impant prevents the blood clots from formation and leaving the heart, and thereby reduces the chances of stroke.

The Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation is a modified “heart-lung” machine to provide temporary cardiorespiratory support to the patients. It is an advanced form of organ support to the severe cardiovascular and respiratory failure patients. The majority of patients develop dysrhythmias, ECMO cannulation site bleeding and thrombocytopenia. ECMO is not a treatment and that does not correct the underlying pathological health issues. ECMO is a form of mechanical system, which can maintain oxygenation even without involvement of lungs and appears ideal for the patients with refractory hypoxemia.

This study attempts to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Stress Reduction Programme on Stress among Wives of Alcoholics in a Selected Rural Area, Bangalore with objectives: To assess the stress level before administering the programme, To assess the stress level after administering the programme, To determine the effectiveness of stress reduction programme by comparing the stress levels before and after the programme, To associate the pre test stress level among the wives of alcoholics with their selected demographic variables. Stress Reduction Programme efficiency is tested using paired t-test and the results shows that there is a significant difference between the mean pre-test and post- test scores at 5% level of significance. Association between the other demographic variables and stress levels are tested using the Chi-Square tests and it is observed that there is significant association between the stress level and the demographic variables at 5% level of significance in educational status and no of children of the respondents. Therefore the Stress Reduction Programme is independent of the selected demographic variables and Stress Reduction Programme reduces the stress evenly in the categories of the selected demographic variables.

Background: Narcotics are drugs that depress, or slow the activity of the body’s nervous system [1]. A narcotic drugs are very efficient in controlling pain and provides the patient a sense of well being. Narcotic has potential for addiction and substance abuse. The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Bill, 1985 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 23 August 1985 and it was assented by the President on 16 September 1985. Narcotic that are made from or contain opium are called opiate. The rise in opioid addicts has been increasing over the years though it would be fallacious to quantify this increase. Opiates remain the world’s main problem drug in terms of treatment. Misuse or improper dosage, and lack of knowledge regarding narcotic policy among health professionals especially nurses may lead to under estimation of patients pain or lead to physical dependence in patients.

Objective: To assess the pre test and post knowledge regarding narcotic policy among the staff nurses in the experimental and control group. To compare the pre test and post test knowledge score. To associate the knowledge score with selected demographic variables in the experimental and control group.

Methodology: This study was based on quantitative research approach. The research design used in this study was Quasi- experimental Non- randomized control group design. The sampling technique used in the study was non- probability convenient sampling and the sample size was 60 (30 in the experimental group – 30 in the control group) staff nurses.

Result: The analysis reveals that.In the experimental group, the pre test mean knowledge obtained by the staff nurses was 15.46 and in the post test it is increased to 24.03. In the control group, the pre test mean knowledge obtained by the staff was 15 and in the post test it is increased to 16.63. The calculated ‘t’ value was 10.65 is higher than table value 2.00 at 0.05 level of significance. Thus the H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected.

Conclusion: The study conclude that the planned teaching programme was effective in improving the knowledge regarding narcotic policy among staff nurses. Association of knowledge was found with area of working in experimental group.

Background: Peripheral cannulation is one of the commonly used procedures for admitted patients, as they have to undergo many infusions for the administration of medications. The nurse is responsible for maintaining and monitoring IV infusion site and promptly detecting any complication like phlebitis, infiltration, air embolism, infection and fluid overload [1]. Superficial thrombophlebitis, inflammation of superficial veins associated with thrombosis, is a painful condition and approximately 3 to 11% of the population will develop superficial thrombophlebitis during their lifetime. Although generally considered a benign, self-limited disease, it can cause considerable discomfort, impact mobility and lead to further complications. Recent and accumulating evidence suggests that it is often associated with more serious forms of venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE)2.

Objectives: 1. Determine the effectiveness of hypertonic saline dressing on  superficial thrombophlebitis. 2. Determine the effectiveness of glycerin magnesium sulphate application on superficial thrombophlebitis. 3. Compare the effectiveness hypertonic saline dressing versus glycerin magnesium sulphate application on superficial thrombophlebitis.

Material and Methods: Quasi-experimental design.

Research approach: Quantitative approach.

Sampling technique: Non-probability purposive sampling and sample size: 20 (10 for each selected intervention).

Results: This study shows that when comparing hypertonic saline and glycerin magnesium sulphate, hypertonic saline can reduce pain, erythema and induration as compared to glycerin magnesium sulphate. In case of swelling, glycerin magnesium sulphate seems to be effective than hypertonic saline. The study was conducted for short period of time thus proper generalization is not possible.

Conclusion: The study concluded that hypertonic saline was found to be more effective as compared to glycerin magnesium sulphate.

The health of children is of fundamental importance. Over 1/5th comprises of children aged 5-14 years i.e. the group covering and secondary education of our population.As today’s children are the citizens of tomorrow’s world, their survival, protection and development are the prerequisite for the future development of humanity. Without ensuring optimal child growth and development efforts to accelerate economic development significantly will be unsuccessful. Children under the age of 5 years constitute a priority group because of their large numbers.

Objectives: The objectives of the study were 1) To assess the nutritional status of the under-five children in the selected hospitals of the city 2) To find out the association between nutritional status of under five children with selected demographic variables.

Methodology: Quantitative research & descriptive design was adopted for the study. A total of 100 samples were selected using non probability convenient sampling technique at selected hospitals of the Nagpur city. The tool use for this study comprises of 3 sections, section A: Demographic data which consist the items for obtaining information about the selected background factors such as, age, gender, religion, types of family, place of residence, educational status of mother, educational status of father, type of delivery, no. of birth order, type of diet, & family income per month. Section B: children distributed according to their nutritional status (by using WHO criteria of malnutrition), other parameters for malnutrition like specific vitamin distribution, specific trace elements, questionnaire about the sources of food in diet of under five children. Section C: association of nutritional status by using WHO criteria of malnutrition with selected demographic variables. Result: The study findings revealed that association of the nutritional status (stunting) with religion, place of residence & birth order, for weight for height (wasting) with type of family. Conclusion: the assessment of under-five children was found to be effective to know the nutritional status of the children.

Stroke is a life changing event and among them 65% could be presented with dysphagia. Dysphagia means an impairment of the swallowing mechanism due to physiological weakness or deficits of structure or neurological function (Ekberg,1982; park et al., 2012;). It can cause negative impact on the person's ability to maintain adequate hydration and nutrition. (Logemann, Nilsson et al., 1998;). Stroke guidelines of UK, US and Australia also stressing on early detection of dysphagia.So, In order to improve the overall outcome after stroke it is essential that the swallowing and feeding performance need to be improved through Chin Tuck Against Resistance (CTAR) Exercise which is helpful in strengthening the suprahyoid muscles that are responsible for swallowing. Thus the study is focused to evaluate the effectiveness of Chin Tuck Against Resistance (CTAR) exercise in improvement of swallowing ability among CVA patients of intervention group. The study was conducted in tertiary care center, Coimbatore and the research design adopted was Quasi-experimental Time series design with multiple institution of treatment. As per the inclusion criteria, 32 samples were selected by purposive sampling and were divided into intervention and comparison group. Pre test data was collected from both the groups then, from next day onwards Chin Tuck Against Resistance Exercise was administered for 8 consecutive days, 3 times a day to the CVA patients who belonged intervention group and the comparison group received the routine care. Post test assessment of swallowing ability among CVA patients was assessed using GUSS (Gugging Swallowing Screen) & FOIS (Functional Oral Intake scale) in both the groups after the exercise during their next feeding time for 8 consecutive days, 3 times a day. The study finding revealed that in the pre test assessment of swallowing ability among CVA patients showed all 16 (100%) patients in
the intervention group were having severe dysphagia. After administration of CTAR exercises gradually at the end of eight days of observation mostly 9 (56.25%) of them progressed to mild dysphagia and 5 (31.2%) of them progressed to no dysphagia category. In the intervention group, on day 1 the CVA patients were having severe dysphagia with the post test mean score of 4.38, they progressed to moderate dysphagia at the end of 6 days with the mean score of 11.56 and at the end of day 8 they progressed to mild dysphagia with a mean score of 16.36 which is also statistically significant with a ‘t’ value 17.347 at the level of p<0.001. Thus it concludes, in the intervention group CTAR exercise is effective in improving the swallowing ability among CVA patients with dysphagia.

The study was conducted to Assess The Effectiveness of Planned Teaching Programme Regarding In Term of Level of Knowledge on Urinary Tract Infection Among Adolescent Girls at selected schools of Raipur, Chhattisgarh. An evaluative approach and a pre-experimental one group pre-test and post- test research design was adopted for the study. For data was collected using random sampling technique among 30 adolescent girls. A predesigned structured interview based questionnaire was used which contain question related to puberty, hygiene and urinary tract infection. There was a significant association between prevalence of urinary tract infection and improper perineal washing technique (CL=95%, p<0.001), malnutrition (CL=95%, p<0.001). Presence of vaginal discharge (CL=95%, p<0.001) and use of unsanitary napkins during periods or menses (CL=95%, p<0.001). Misconception included not taking bath during periods and not eating certain foods. Low socio- economic status was chiefly responsible for frequent use of same piece of cloth as sanitary pads during menstrual bleeding leading to urinary tract infection.

Television is one of the most effective media in today’s world in order to spend one’s leisure time. From younger generation to older generation everyone were fond of watching television whenever they gets time. For a child, television is a source to gain information about life and experience different types of behaviour. So it is very important for a parents to take care of their child while watching television. The current study was aim to assess the effect of watching television on selected behaviour among children. The research design adopted was a descriptive survey. The subjects were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The sample size was 100 children aged between 8-10 years of Vasavi Nagar area of Raichur. Data were collected by using structured interview schedule through checklist. Result showed that the effect of watching television was observed to the maximum number of the children in selected behaviour on eating behaviour, physical activity, study behaviour, psychosocial behaviour and emotional behaviour. Out of 100 childrens, only 1 (1%) had adequate behaviour, 96 (96%) had moderate behaviour and 3(3%) had inadequate behaviour. Awareness can be created to parents as well as childrens through structured teaching programme on maintaining and promoting healthy behaviours thereby preventing bad influence of effect of watching television.
