Background: Nowadays a great need for an anti-bacterial agent can be used on a daily basis without side effects of antimicrobial chemicals as chlorhexidine. This is study aims to evaluate the microbiologic effect of Gum Arabic against streptococcus cultures. Materials and Methods: Aqueous of Gum Arabic Hashab (Acacia Senegal) and Talha (Acacia Seyal) with different concentration (10%-100%) were used to evaluate the antimicrobial activity by the agar well diffusion method. Streptococcus mutans was placed on the agar. Gum Arabic solution was propelled in the wells made in the agar, after incubation at 370C - for 24 hours in anaerobic incubator. The diameter of inhibition zones formed around wells were measured and compared with control (chlorhexidine 2%). Minimum inhibitory concentration for Hashab and Talha was determined. Results: No significant difference was found between Gum Arabic and chlorhexidine. The antimicrobial effect of Gum Arabic Hashab and Talha was similar to that of chlorhexidine (p-value > 0.05). Gum Arabic Hashab and Talha had same effect against Streptococcus mutans (p-value > 0.05). Minimum inhibitory concentration was 7% for Gum Arabic Hashab and 8% for Gum Arabic Talha. Conclusion: Gum Arabic inhibited the growth of Streptococcus mutans. It highly recommended to be used as preventive measure for cariogenic process.

Abstract: The placement of implant necessitates a team approach of dental implant experts for the planning, execution and maintenance of the implants to ensure the best possible outcome. Once the implant have been placed in the edentulous region, maintenance therapy and assessment of implant status and radiographs are necessary to insure the long life of these restorations, and this necessitates the team of dental implant specialists to have thorough knowledge of implant maintenance procedures as well, as an implant malfunction. The divergences in the supporting structure of the implant make them more susceptible to inflammation and bone loss when plaque accumulates as compared to the teeth. Therefore, a comprehensive maintenance protocol should be followed to ensure the longevity of the dental implant.

Tobacco use is generally described as the most prevalent cause of mortality and morbidity all around the world.Tobacco consumption is currently accepted as a well-established risk factor for many oral diseases such as oral cancer and periodontal disease. Methodology: The study population for the study were 100 students from each faculty within the age group of 21-25 years. The colleges were randomly chosen to collect the data. Results: Although smoking has adverse effects on the overall body, 14.4% of students overall consumed tobacco, in which 78% was in smoking form (68%- cigarette, 21%- hookah, and 11%- combined) and 22% in smokeless form. Considerably 89.2% of overall students were well aware of the fact of serious ill effects of tobacco consumption. Discussion: Even though the students were well aware of the fact that, consumption of tobacco has serious effects on the body and it’s long term use can lead to cancer; around 14.4% students (72/500) consumed tobacco. Results: All the faculties relatively considered, it was their responsibility and agreed to the fact that lack of training and time was one of the barriers in advising the patients to Tobacco Cessation Therapies. Conclusion: Medical professionals and social workers have been identified as having an important role to play in supporting tobacco users who desire to quit.

Objective: The use of microwave energy has been used in various fields of dentistry, medicine and household appliances. Recently microwave energy has been successfully used in dentistry and plethora of articles has been published. Also included in the field of sterilization, disinfection of dental appliances, drying of gypsum product and polymerization of resin. The objective of this study was to compare the linear dimensional accuracy of conventional heat cure resin to microwave cure resin. Method: In this study a standard metal die as per ADA specification NO 12 measuring 65 mm in length,3 mm thickness,10 mm wide was used to plan 30 test specimens. 15 test specimens were prepared from conventional heat cure resin and 15 from microwave cured resin. The specimens were checked and evaluated using digital caliper which has precision of ±0.001 mm. The measurements were compared recorded with standard metal dies. Result and conclusion: Linear dimensional accuracy was checked both between and within the group with the ANOVA test and found that accuracy between the groups was 0.148 and 0.004 within the group of the study. Consequently the liner dimensional accuracy of microwave resin were better-quality and advanced to conventional cure resin with p value of 0.000.

Context: The technological advances have made it possible to turn microscopic slides into digital images which can be viewed on computer screen known as digital microscopy (DM). Recent studies have shown that DM is gaining popularity in multiple academic fields, including dentistry. There are only few studies evaluating the use of DM compared to light microscopy (LM) with reference to dental students. In addition, there is a lack of literature concerning Indian dental students with the use of DM. Aims: To compare the DM with LM and assess the usefulness of DM in learning oral histology and pathology among undergraduate dental students. Setting and analysis used: A total of 363 students participated in the study. DM method was integrated into practical classes in Oral histology and Oral Pathology. The opinions of the students were collected through questionnaire about the usefulness and compliance to DM compared to LM. Results: 80% and above students gave opinion that DM is the best way to study the microscopic slides. However, 91.7% of the students were of the opinion that both LM and DM are required to study the slides and were against totally eliminating the conventional LM method (92%). Conclusion: These findings support the implementation of DM as the primary teaching methodology in oral histology and Pathology teaching and at the same time, exposing the students to conventional microscopes and glass slides is also essential to appreciate the concepts of histology and digital images.
