The major disturbances among the menstrual disorders are seen in the form of irregular cycles which has been emphasized by many medical interviews ranging from 5-16%.[3] Most of the adolescents presenting with irregular cycles are associated with PCOS whose incidence is estimated to be between 11 & 26 %[9] and about 50% are overweight. These problems improperly addressed during adolescence may result as cause for infertility in the married women. Hence this study was carried out to investigate the awareness on current issue in college going adolescent girls. A cross sectional study was conducted on 209 girls. A self-administered questionnaire consists of the questions on awareness, knowledge on menstruation & PCOS is used for data collection. The mean age of respondents was 17.5yrs and the mean age attained at menarche was 13.5 yrs. Data revealed that there is general lack of awareness about knowledge on menstrual cycles in 48-50% of the adolescents. Most of them (60%) are not aware of the condition Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome though they are presenting with its clinical features. Hence there is need to educate the adolescents about the normal menstruation and the most prevalent disorder called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

Agni (fire) is the invariable agent in the process of Paka (chemical action).Ingested food is to be digested, absorbed and assimilated, which is unavoidable for the maintenance of life and is performed by Agni. The different types of Agni perform different functions according to its site. Wholesome food stuffs ingested in fourfold manner having been digested by Jatharagni is followed by further Paka by Bhautikagni which are again subjected further Paka by Dhatwagni. Dhatwagnis catalyse further metabolic transformation of the nutrient substances before they made available to the seven Dhatus. According to modern science, hormones and enzymes also act as catalyst in metabolic transformation similar to that of Dhatwagni in Ayurveda. This concept is helpful in understanding Samprapti (pathogenesis) of metabolic diseases like Prameha (diabetes), hypothyroidism and hence in planning line of treatment according to Ayurveda.

Cancer has attracted an attention of physicians and surgeons of the world. It is a challenge to the medical profession as it is not easy to cure by several methods of treatment being followed by different system of medicine. As it stands today, one of the most dread full diseases of the 20th century and further spreading continuously with increasing incidence in 21st century and there is no permanent remedy for cancer of long standing duration. And it accounts for 25% of all the deaths in humans presently. Validations of anti- ancerous property of various medicinal plants have been screened worldwide. The new findings about anti- ancerous drugs of plant origin which is not mentioned in ancient literatures add up to Ayurvedic science that has been developed through ages. The researchers conducted on medicinal plants of Ayurvedic preparations for their anticancer efficacy strongly emphasize Ayurvedic therapy as a scientifically motivated one. Such integrated approach is necessary to manage cancer using the growing body of knowledge gained through scientific developments. Hence, an attempt is made in this review to discuss about anticancer drugs of plant origin as well as the Ayurvedic line of managements like shamana, shodhana, rasayana etc. strategies for various cancers.

Kaarshya is one of the burning problems in spite of many global wise remedial measures, which have been adopted to provide nutrition. It is a condition of the depletion of the fat as well as muscles in the body. This is the reason why the treatment of it is highly necessary to restore the normalcy of the body. A majority of the population in the developing countries suffer from malnutrition and under nutrition. It forms one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in children as well as in adult population. In the global campaign of health for all, promotion of proper nutrition is one of the 8 elements of primary health care. Ayurveda with its holistic approach can help in this condition with its unique way of lifestyle management and the drug therapy.[1,2,7] Swasthavritta has a role to play in the management of the Kaarshya.

In the present clinical study 30 patients were treated by dividing them into trial & control group each containing 15 patients. The drugs were administered in the Lozenge (Rasakriya) form for its easy palatability in both the groups. Amritadi Lozenges (Rasakriya) is one such herbal combination mentioned in Bhaishajya Ratnavali, the efficacy of which is still to be proved by modern research methods. It is explained specially in the context of Kasa in children and said to be very effective in curing all the five types of kasa. The present study has shown significant relief by Amritadi Lozenges in children of Kaphaja kasa in comparision to Placebo lozenges in the signs & symptoms of Kaphaja Kasa. Moreover results are encouraging, cost effective, palatable & can be an alternative choice in patients of respiratory tract infection.
