herbo-mineral formulations (LAS-01) developed by Lavanya Ayurvedic was employed any case of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma under permission of IEC of Hospital. The patient was closely monitored for day to day effects of the formulations. After Chemotherapy and Radiation with no remedial effects, the case (N.A.) was admitted for his treatment at Lavanya Ayurveda Hospital. In a short span of treatment, marked clinical and radiological effects were observed. The patient felt a for better improvement in comparison of modern treatment in healing of nasal wound and quality of life (QOL).

Diabetes is the new epidemic in developing India. Slight modification of diet according to the disease not only helps the patients to control diabetes but also fulfills the daily need of nutrients for the body. Along with the balanced diet, natural hypoglycemic foods also prove very beneficial in decreasing the elevated levels of blood glucose and also have no side effects as compared to synthetic hypoglycemic drugs. There are various natural plant products having distinct hypoglycemic character which can be used and incorporated in daily diet to reduce elevated blood sugar levels. Out of all common ones, the potent hypoglycemic agents i.e. fenugreek seeds (Trigonellafoenum graecum), bitter gourd (Momordica charantia), jamun seeds (Eugenia jambolana), tulsi leaves (Occimum sanctum) and guar-gum (extracted from cluster beans i.e. Cymopsis tetragonaloba) were chosen to develop baked products commonly consumed daily viz. biscuits and buns from each traditional hypoglycemic agent (THA). The acceptable level of incorporation of THA varied in baked products ranging from 4% to 20%. All the developed food preparations were organoleptically evaluated by a panel of 30 non insulin dependent diabetics using nine point hedonic scales. Biscuits were well accepted by the panel members as the mean scores for overall acceptability of the biscuits developed from various hypoglycemic agents ranged from 6.2 to 8.2, thus fell between the category of ‘liked moderately to liked extremely’. The guar-gum biscuits were ‘liked extremely’ (8.2) by the diabetics, followed by jamun biscuits (7.7) which were ‘liked very much’. Following, tulsi biscuits, methi biscuits and bitter gourd biscuits were ‘liked moderately’ scoring 6.7, 6.3 and 6.2, respectively. Thus guar-gum biscuits were highly acceptable whereas methi biscuits and bitter gourd biscuits were least accepted. Same as biscuits, guar-gum buns had the highest mean overall acceptability score (8.7) and were ‘liked extremely’ by the diabetics. Next was jamun bun and was ‘liked very much’ followed by tulsi bun which was ‘liked moderately’, having mean scores as 7.6 and 6.4, respectively. The least acceptability was noted for methi bun (5.6) and bitter gourd bun (5.5) and was ‘liked slightly’. Overall acceptability of biscuits and buns incorporated with traditional hypoglycemic agents was found to be more than 60 per cent.

Suryavarta is a commonest clinical condition among the patients presenting to physicians with headache as a cardinal feature. The symptomatology of which reveals its close resemblance with that of Frontal sinusitis of varied etiology found either with acute or chronic form. According to classics of Ayurveda pathogenesis of Suryavarta is a result of more than one doshas. Charaka opined that Rakta and Vatadoshas are responsible for the manifestation of the disease where as Sushruta described it as Tridoshaja disease and is difficult to cure. Frontal sinusitis affects 14% of total population with peak incidence in the age group between 20 to 30 years and less frequently seen in children. Recurrent attacks and incomplete treatment makes it chronic. It lacks in specific medical treatment and the surgical intervention is not suitable for all. This instills a need for Ayurvedic management of Suryavarta (Frontal Sinusitis). For the same reason this study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of Nasya (Trans nasal administration) with fresh juice of Bhringaraja (Eclipta Alba) leaves in the management of Suryavarta (Frontal Sinusitis). 30 patients of Suryavarta (Frontal Sinusitis) were selected incidentally and administered Nasya with fresh juice of Bhringaraja (Eclipta alba) leaves – 8 drops in each nostril for 7 days. To assess the efficacy of treatment, the symptoms of Suryavarta (Frontal Sinusitis) such as Headache, Nausea, Edema of Upper eyelid, Nasal discharge, Photophobia and Haziness of Sinuses were noted carefully before commencement and after completion of the treatment. All the parameters showed statistically significant results with ‘P’value<0.05.

Leech therapy is one of the modalities of Ashastrakrtaraktamokshana karma (bloodletting without sharp instruments) for treating localized pain. AcharyaSushruta mentioned it in pittadushtarakta (blood vitiated by pitta), avagadhadushta pitta (deep seated vitiated pitta disease), toda (pain) etc. Traditionally in practice it is elicited that it effectively alleviates pain and relieves joint inflammation rapidly and improves joint functions as well. A retrospective survey done in KLE University’s Sri BMK Ayurved Hospital & Research centre revealed IPD and OPD units were frequented most by asthi-sandhigatavata (joint conditions). Since studies have also shown salivary glands of leeches also produce pharmacologically active substances including antihistaminic, protease, and anaesthetic, anti tripsic molecules. An open non randomized trial was carried out on patients diagnosed with sandhi-asthigatavta (osteo-arthritis, synovitis and bursitis) and snayugatavata (tendinitis) following application of Jalkka/leech. The findings of the study suggested that acute conditions of these afore mentioned conditions in terms of pain was alleviated following the course of treatment.

Ageing is a natural phenomenon, which had been accepted since long in Ayurveda, but being realized by modern gerontologists only since recent past. Rate of ageing is determined by one’s biological, social, life style and psychological conditions and adversity of which leads to accelerated form of ageing, which is termed as akalaja jara in Ayurveda. The aims of the present study was to evaluate the classical formulation- Amalakayas Rasayana on selected subjective as well as objective parameters and to assess overall out come on quality of life in premature ageing patients. Results showed that AR improved physical capacity in premature ageing to a significant level. AR improves most of the health parameters. The improvement in walking time, hand grip power, foot pressure, short term memory, long term memory and breath-holding time and skin wrinkling time are highly significant (p<0.001). AR reduced mean systolic B.P (5.39%) in statistically significant manner (p<0.01), whereas decreased diastolic B.P (11.46%), pulse rate (14.7%), mean pressure (7.16%), and rate pressure (6.54%) in highly significant manner (p<0.001). Most haematological and biochemical parameters are changed with in physiological range. AR increased PCV (1.15%), hemoglobin (1.09%) and Neutrophil (5.03%) in statistically significant manner (p<0.01), while decreased ESR (5.61%) in significant manner (p<0.01). AR increases the parameters of liver function tests mentioned bellow, they were within physiological limit. The increase of total protein (3.45%), albumin (3.22%) and globulin (3.83%) is statistically highly significant (p<0.001), Therefore, AR is rasayana in the true sense and may be an effective medicine in improving physical activity in ageing patients.

A sedentary lifestyle combined with an increase in the consumption of fatty food and alcohol is blamed as important causes of many life style disorders like obesity, diabetes, hypertension etc. before their time. One of the commonest effects of the current life style on the cardiac system is Hypertension. The blood vessel shows the inherent muscle tone that can be altered moment to moment by both Central Nervous System (CNS) and adrenal hormones. Psychological states like fear, anger, and anxiety constrict the blood vessels resulting in increasing blood pressure. The present study is an attempt to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of Medhya Rasayana and Kshiradhara in the management of essential hypertension. The results were assessed by decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, improvement in clinical parameters related to essential hypertension and relief in mental health observed on the basis of Brief Psychiatry Rating Scale and Manasikabhava pariksha. The result showed that both the therapies have highly significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure but Kshiradhara reduced it in more pronounced way. Medhya Rasayana started decreasing blood pressure from first week of the therapy and in gradual manner whereas Kshiradhara started decreasing blood pressure form the very first day of the therapy but in stepladder manner. Both therapies were equally effective as marked improvement was reported in 20% and moderate improvement in 80% of the patients of Essential Hypertension.
