Research done on the rats with the Ghanasatva of decoction prepared from Dashmula (root bark of Brhat Panchmula and roots of Laghupanchmula about its analgesic, febrifuge and antiphlogestic activities. It showed the following results. It exhibited analgesic properties similar to aspirin. It also showed febrifuge as well as slightly antiphlogestic activities.

Lavana (salt) is widely described in Ayurvedic classics. There are mainly five varieties of Lavanas used frequently in Ayurveda amongst them Saindhava Lavana is the best. Chemically, Saindhava Lavana is considered as Sodium chloride/Rock salt/Bay salt. Sauvarchala Lavana is Black salt/Sorchal salt/Unaqua Sodium Chloride, Samudra is Salt/Sodii muras. Primeval clairvoyants knew wide range of properties of Lavana. They used it for dietary and therapeutic purposes. Mostly, Saindhava Lavana has been appraised because of its undisputed acceptance amongst all classical texts.

Almost all the traditional health care delivery systems claim effective management of asthma. Among them, Ayurveda is one with a strong scientific background which was translated into recommendations for clinical management of this condition. Bronchial asthma closely resembles Tamaka Shwasa in Ayurveda. With the projected increase in the proportion of the world’s population, that is urban from 45% to 59% in 2025, there is likely to be a marked increase in the number of asthmatics worldwide over the next two decades. The WHO and International Asthma Council (IAC) consultation report published in 1998 on Implementation of Asthma Guidelines highlights that, wherever there is the use of traditional medicines in asthma care, the conventional therapy should not be stopped because of lack of evidence of safety and efficacy of these therapies. Clinical researches carried out in different institutes of Ayurveda on Tamaka Shwasa with avaleha formulations have been proved with significant results, giving a strong scientific base regarding the safety and efficacy of the Ayurvedic treatment. Here, an attempt has been made to compile the clinical research works of three compound formulations, namely Vasa khanda kushmanda avaleha, Bharangiguda Avaleha and Shirishavaleha on Tamaka Shwasa (Bronchial Asthma).

In Ayurveda, honey is widely used in therapeutics as an important vehicle (Anupana) for drug administration through the oral route and also in the preparation of various medicaments. In this present study, attempt was made to compare physico-chemical analysis of different samples of honey collected from different sources. Samples of honey were collected from natural habitat (Sample A), local pharmacy (Sample B), GMP certified pharmacy (Sample C), AGMARK certified company (Sample D). These samples are compared for their physico-chemical characteristics with standards of API. Results revealed that in Fieche’s test except for sample A, other samples turned to in cherry red colour indicating addition of artificial invert sugar in the samples of honey. The Specific Gravity was least in Sample C and was most in Sample D. pH value of Sample A was similar to API standard where as in other samples was more. Least Ash value of 0.023% was found in sample D and most in sample A. The refractive indices of all the samples were similar. Fructose/Glucose ratio was more than 1 in all the samples. All the samples were soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol. n. p. Honey collected from natural habitat (Western Ghats) complied with the API standard.

Quality and safety are the two most essential aspects for the acceptance of drugs. The drug, which is going to be administered in to the human body, should be standard and should not produce any kind of untoward effects after its administration. A drug fulfilling the criterion of a standard drug will always become panacea provided, if it is used properly. On the other hand, a poorly prepared or manufactured drug however used skillfully, will always prove to be a poison. Seers of Ayurveda considered these aspects and stressed their significance in respective classics. In due course of time, considering the enormous growth of pharmaceutical sector; Governments established different Drug Regulating Mechanisms to regulate entering of spurious drugs in to the market. The Drugs & Cosmetics Act & Rules governs the Drug Regulating Mechanisms to maximum extent in India. Considering the need of the industry, the rules will be amended at regular intervals. Here an attempt has been made to compile certain important amendments took place in recent past.

The Incidence and prevalence of disorders caused due to metabolic aberration in kapha and medas is mountaineering up in the general public in recent times. The present survey was done on 87 patients of kapha medo margavarana (Hyperlipidemia) to study factors influencing the occurrence of this disorder. Greater percentage of the study grlup was females engaged in household works and a large number of subjects were from middle and upper socioeconomic status. Maximum number of the survey populace was worried about their unusual weight gain and BMI Nearly 30% of them were above 32 risk factors related to dietetics, lifestyle and genetic issues were seen in the major percentage. Psychological stress, unsatisfied sexual life, and sedentary life were the other noticeable findings observed. Symptoms and signs of morbidity of kapha and medas, deviation in the normal functioning of rasa vaha and medo vaha srotas, were the key results of the shady.
