Vrindamadhava is written by Vrinda during 9th century A.D. In this work Vrinda has enumerated line of treatment and most efficacious formulations for various disease conditions, described by Madhavanidana. Herbs have dominated Ayurvedic therapeutics during pre-Vrinda period. Vrinda has recorded not only herbal remedies but also several herbo-mineral formulations and incorporated most of the minerals and metals in his work. Keeping this in view, an attempt has been made to identify and compile the minerals and metals which are useful in different ailments and to know the dominated metals in medieval ayurvedic therapeutics.

Sneha kalpanas are one of the unique formulations of Bhaishajya Kalpana. Sunflower, Soya and Groundnut oils are in use for day today’s life. Taila Murchana is adopted to enhance the potency of oil, by removing their bad odour. The nature of raw oil, murchita oil, and refined oil is varied physically and chemically. Murchita oil is more potent seen in analysis compared to refined and raw samples. Shelf life and therapeutic property of Murchita oil is more as compared to refined and crude oil.

 Overweight and obesity is commonly assessed by using body mass index (BMI), BMI over 25 kg/m2 is defined as overweight, and over 30 kg/m2 as obese. Currently more than 1 billion adults are overweight - and at least 300 million of them are clinically obese globally and Obesity accounts for 2-6% of total health care costs in several developed countries (WHO). Ayurveda describes eight types of despicable designated as ‘Ninditapurusha’, atisthaulya (obesity) is one of them. Obesity poses major health risk factors for chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases including hypertension, I.H.D and stroke, and certain forms of cancer. In the present study 67 patients of obesity were treated with trivrt yukta navaka guggulu. After course of therapy 3.96 ± 0.29 (mean difference ± SE) and 1.63 ± 0.12 reduction of body weight and body mass index was noted. The result was found statistically highly significant (p<0.001). No clinical adverse effect was observed in any of the patients.

Background: Numerous studies have reported physiological and therapeutic effects of yoga in patients with diabetes., Objective: The objective of this paper is to update the yoga practitioners, physical therapists, diabetologists, physicians, and physiologists with the growing evidence on effects of yoga for diabetes through a systematic literature search., Materials and methods: Systematic review of studies in MEDLINE and CINAHL from 1951-2010 was conducted using search terms yoga OR yogic AND diabetes OR diabetic IN title OR abstract for English articles. Consensus was obtained after independent blinded search and overall findings were summarized., Main findings: Seventeen included articles were heterogenous and studied all categories of effects of yoga which were categorized into yogic techniques, biological effects, psychological effects and social effects. Most of the reported effects were short-term and smaller sample size populations., Conclusion: There was an overall beneficial effects for yoga among patients with diabetes. These beneficial effects were found not only to be physical, but also mental and social aspects of care. Further studies on psychological and social effects of yoga on diabetic patients are warranted.
