 Pharmacognostical study revealed that the ingredients of Amalakayas Rasayana are authentic. Physicochemical parameters of AR are within the accepted range. The 30.6% w/w of total ash and acid insoluble ash 3.45% w/w may be due to its iron (Fe2O3 ) content. AR contains 50% w/w water soluble extractives, which indicates that AR is easily soluble in water. AR gives 2 and 6 spots on short and long UV light respectively, which indicate that its chemical compounds are easily separable. AR contains 27.5% w/ w iron (Fe2O3 ) indicating it’s a good source of iron. The total phenolic content was given satisfactory linearity against Gallic acid equivalents (R2 = 0.998). The DPPH (R2=1 in polynomial plotting) assay showed good linearity against ascorbic acid indicating its free radical scavenging activity. EDTA & NBT assays showed sufficient linearity (R² = 0.976) against ascorbic acid indicating potent superoxide radical scavenging activity, whereas ferrous reducing power was also showed satisfactory linearity (R² = 0.986). Total tannin was estimated 2.82 % w/w. The extract was also showed ROS scavenging activities (R2=0.976; EC50=77.5µg/ml). These pharmacognostical, physic-chemical and analytical parameters will help to establish further standards of Ayurvedic drugs to assure their safety, purity and efficacy.

 Mental, physical and social entities are inseparable and influence each other throughout the life. Many factors such as, anxiety, depression, unhealthy life style, unhygienic diet disturb mental and physical wellbeing. Anxiety, depression and social support are an important determinant of symptomatic and functional outcome. Providing social support can ameliorate symptoms and reassurance and patient’s education can bring about change in symptoms. Sandhigata-vata is described under vatavyadhi in all Ayurvedic texts.Dhatukshya is one of the main causes of vatavyadhi. This clinical condition is well comparable to osteoarthritis (O.A.), which is the second most common rheumatologic problem with prevalence of 22% to 39% in India. Demographic studies reveal that osteoarthritic changes commence between 4th- 5th decades of life. In present study, 56 patients fulfilling the diagnostic criteria of sandhigata-vata were subjected for the evaluation of dietary and life style related factors in the etiopathogenesis of the disease. It was observed that majority of patients followed viruddhaashana and vishamaashana food habits and had krura and madhyama koshtha. Females in the post menopausal age were observed in maximum and unwholesome diet, obesity, disturbed physical and mental health seemed to play an important role in etiopathogenesis of sandhivata (osteoarthritis).

 Ashmari (Urolithiasis) is a frequently encountered urological disorder in its different forms. Since many years it has been a challenging problem facing by the urologist to combat the disease and find its solution an experimental study has been carried out. In the present study the alcoholic extract of the whole plant and the fresh juice of the leaves of the plant Pasanabheda (Bryophyllum pinnatum) were studied for its antiurolithiatic activity against experimentally produced urinary bladder stones in albino rats in the laboratory. The entire study was conducted in three groups of 08 rats. Bladder stone was produced by implanting the glass bead in the urinary bladder of all rats as a foreign body. Group-A rats were treated with plain water, group-B rats were treated with alcoholic extract of the drug whereas, group-C rats were treated with fresh juice of the leaves of the plant in calculated doses, for a period of 30 days. In this research, different parameters of blood and urine, related to the pathogenesis of the stones, were tested. The trial drug has clearly shown the effectiveness in increasing the urine output, lowering the pH of urine, decreasing the excretion of urinary calcium and phosphorus and preventing the growth of urinary bladder stone and over all its formation in experimental model of albino rats.
