As space agencies plan for prolonged missions to Mars and beyond, the importance of maintaining optimal oral health in microgravity environments has become increasingly evident. Prolonged exposure to microgravity can lead to a range of adverse effects on the oral cavity, including fluid redistribution, bone deterioration, and impaired immune system function. This editorial highlights the critical need for a specialized branch of dentistry, Aeronautic Dentistry, to address the unique oral health challenges posed by space travel. By understanding the mechanisms underlying microgravity-induced oral health changes, we can develop effective countermeasures to prevent disease and ensure the optimal health and well-being of astronauts on long-duration space .
