IntroductionI am Dr. Narotam Sharma, a highly accomplished scientist and researcher with a Ph.D. in Biotechnology, currently serving as a Scientist at the Central Molecular Research Laboratory within the Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences. My academic career is rooted in a strong foundation in Biotechnology and Molecular Diagnostics, backed by extensive professional training in Genetic Engineering and diagnostic analysis. Over my 15+ year career, I have developed deep, practical expertise in leveraging advanced molecular techniques, particularly various PCR technologies, to address complex infectious diseases like Tuberculosis and viral threats like H1N1, as well as autoimmune conditions such as Ankylosing Spondylitis. My commitment to generating actionable scientific knowledge is quantified by a substantial portfolio of 51 peer-reviewed research publications in reputed journals.
My professional impact extends significantly beyond the bench through notable leadership and infrastructure development roles. At SGRRIM&HS, I successfully spearheaded the establishment and operational launch of both Biosafety Level-2 (BSL-2) and BSL-3 laboratory facilities, ensuring the capacity for cutting-edge and safe molecular research. This leadership was critical when I served as the In-Charge for Uttarakhand’s first government-approved Swine Flu (H1N1) testing center, showcasing my ability to manage high-stakes public health diagnostics. I am also deeply committed to nurturing future scientific talent, a commitment demonstrated by successfully guiding and co-guiding over 102 dissertations and theses for life science students from institutions across India.
Furthermore, I maintain a strong link with the broader academic and medical community through active engagement and outreach. I frequently serve as a resource person and guest lecturer at various universities, sharing insights on the future of Molecular Diagnostics, the clinical utility of biomarkers, and biotechnological innovations in health.
