Dr. Shameer Modongal teaches West Asian Studies at the University of Kerala. He completed PhD from the Centre for International Politics, Organization, Diplomacy and Disarmament (CIPOD) at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. His doctoral research explores the Islamic perspectives on international conflict resolution with the case study of the theological debates on the Israel-Palestine peace process. Prior to the PhD, Dr. Shameer completed his MPhil research on the role of religion in nuclear decision-making with the case study of Iran and Pakistan.
In 2022, Shameer published two books: Islamic Perspectives on International Conflict Resolution: Theological Debates on the Israel-Palestinian Peace Process (Routledge) and Religion and Nuclear Weapons: A Study of Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan (Vij Books India). In 2021, he co-edited the book, Counterterrorism and Global Security: Genesis, Responses and Challenges (Vij Books). Additionally, he serves as an editor/reviewer of five international journals with ISSN numbers, including Cogent Social Sciences of Taylor and Francis. His articles and reviews have appeared in reputed international peer-reviewed journals such as Bandung: Journal of the Global South, World Affairs (Springer), Cogent Social Sciences (Routledge), Defense & Security Analysis (Routledge), Defence Studies (Routledge), International Studies Review (Oxford), Digest of Middle East Studies (Wiley), Insight Turkey, International Journal of Diplomacy and Economy (Inderscience), Human Rights Review (Springer), Journal of Asian Security and International Affairs (Sage), Journal of Liberty and International Affairs, Politics, Religion & Ideology (Routledge), Political Studies Review (Sage), Reading Religion (American Academy of Religion), Strategic Studies Quarterly (Air University Press) and World Affairs. He has also presented papers at various national and international conferences in India and abroad.
He holds an MA in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University and MA in Political Science from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. He qualified Junior Research Fellowship and National Eligibility Test of the University Grants Commission in International and Area Studies. He has cleared the National Eligibility Test in Political Science as well.
