IntroductionI, Dr. J. Sailaja
Rani working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology,
Advanced Post Graduate Centre, Guntur which is under Acharya N.G. Ranga
Agricultural University (ANGRAU). Graduated from Agricultural
College, Bapatla, ANGRAU in 2003 and completed
Post Graduation in 2005 and doctoral degree in 2020 from S.V
.Agricultural College, Tirupati, ANGRAU, Andhra Pradesh.
Joined the University in 2011 as Assistant Professor
(Plant Pathology) at Agricultural College, Mahanandi, served for 9 years later transferred
to work as a scientist at Sugarcane Research Station, Vuyyuru. During my
research career at SRS, Vuyyuru, I’ve done research on major diseases infecting
sugarcane and their management, mainly on identification of resistant sugarcane genotypes to red rot,
smut and YLD diseases. I have worked on biological control of sugarcane
diseases by isolation of native bioagents from sugarcane rhizosphere and their
characterization. Also I have conducted
studies and developed an eco-friendly alternative to chemical fungicides for
red rot management at settling stage with natural plant extracts. Also I was actively
involved in technology assessment and refined projects, regular survey, surveillance,
diagnostic visits, field visits, method demonstrations, farmer scientist
interaction programs. Published 41 research articles and presented 35 research
abstracts in national and international conferences. Delivered 7 radio and 3 TV
programmes on plant disease management for the benefit of the farmers. Hold life memberships in three scientific journals. Received
7 best oral / poster presentation awards in national/
international seminars and conferences. Guided three P.G. Students as
chairperson and now guiding 2 PG students as chairperson.
I’ve also received
several prestigious awards viz., Academic excellence award from International Academy of
Science and Research, Kolkata, West Bengal and MS
Swaminathan Prize 2026, Research excellence award from Institute of
researchers, Research unit of ISPL registered by MSME, Govt of India, Wayanad,
Kerala in 2026. M/s.
KCP Sugars & Industries Corporation Ltd. Gold Medal for the year 2025-26 from
ANGRAU. Eminent Scientist Award- Vigyan
Varta Excellence Awards 2024- 25
through the Vigyan Varta Foundation in collaboration with the Omm Shanti
Narayan Foundation Trust, Bhubaneswar. Dr. B. B. Mundukur award on the occasion
of 4th International conference” in 2023
organized by Mallareddy university, Hyd & ISAHRD ,Chandigarh.
