Introduction

I am Dr. Parneet Kaur, Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Government Medical College, Patiala. It is an honour to serve in an institution with a rich academic legacy and to contribute to the training of future obstetricians and gynaecologists.

I consider myself a sincere and dedicated teacher, deeply committed to undergraduate and postgraduate education. Teaching, for me, is not limited to imparting knowledge but also involves nurturing clinical judgment, ethical practice, and professional responsibility among students. I have always believed in leading by example and maintaining high academic and clinical standards in the department.

Academically, I am a keen learner and researcher. My areas of special interest include contraception, high-risk pregnancy and oncology—fields that demand continuous updating of knowledge and evidence-based practice. Over the years, I have been fortunate to contribute to several research publications in both national and international journals, reflecting my commitment to advancing clinical science and improving patient care.

In addition to research, I actively participate in academic evaluation and quality assurance. I serve as a reviewer for four specialty journals and regularly function as an undergraduate and postgraduate examiner for various universities. I have also contributed chapters to specialty textbooks, which has been a rewarding way to share clinical experience and academic perspectives with a wider audience.

As Head of the Department, I strive to promote a culture of teamwork, discipline, compassion, and academic excellence. My goal is to create an environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, engage in research, and develop into confident, competent, and compassionate clinicians.

I look forward to continued academic collaboration and to contributing meaningfully to women’s health care, medical education, and professional development in our specialty. Thank you
