Introduction

I am Dr. Jampala Venkata Ramana, a highly experienced Professor and Head of the Department of Animal Nutrition at the College of Veterinary Science, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupathi. My career in academia and research spans over 25 years, beginning with my foundational B.V.Sc & A.H. in 1986, followed by M.V.Sc and a Ph.D in Animal Nutrition from esteemed institutions in India. This strong academic background, which includes a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM), has equipped me with both deep domain expertise and the necessary managerial skills to lead and innovate within the field of veterinary science.

My professional journey is marked by significant contributions across Teaching, Research, Extension, and Management. A primary focus of my research has been nutritional efficiency in various livestock, including studies on Nellore sheep and indigenous goats for meat production, and the nutritional evaluation of feedstuffs like urea-treated bajra straw. Critically, I have pioneered work in developing region-specific mineral mixtures for different agro-climatic zones, addressing crucial micronutrient deficiencies in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. This work, along with developing shrimp feed processing technology and crop residue-based complete feeds, directly translates to improved animal health and productivity for farmers.

As a Professor and Head, my responsibilities extend to guiding the next generation of researchers. I have successfully mentored numerous Master's and Doctoral students on diverse topics, from utilizing unconventional feed resources like tomato pomace to studying the effects of organic mineral supplements. My dedication to the field has been recognized through multiple prestigious honors, including the ICAR Team Research Award and the AP State Best Teacher Award-2013, alongside fellowships from the National Academy of Veterinary Sciences and the Animal Nutrition Association. I am committed to advancing the science of Animal Nutrition and ensuring its practical application benefits the farming community and the broader scientific world.
