Introduction

I am Dr. Dimple Goel, an experienced Australian Citizen and AHPRA registered Neonatologist and Retrieval Consultant with a deep commitment to high-quality, complex neonatal and paediatric care. My clinical expertise is currently centered in South Australia, where I serve as the Acting Head of Unit for Medstar Kids Retrieval Medicine SAAS, a role I've held since April 2019. Prior to this leadership role, I garnered comprehensive experience in neonatology and paediatric care across various institutions, including specialized fellowship training at the Royal Hospital for Women and Westmead Hospital, following my MD in Paediatrics from Maulana Azad Medical College, India. My practice is distinguished by a strong focus on advanced procedural skills, including ultrasound-guided techniques, and competency in sophisticated technologies like video-laryngoscopy.

My dedication to clinical excellence is underpinned by a commitment to continuous academic and professional development. I hold the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Neonatology and am currently pursuing dual Masters degrees in Health Management (MHM) and Public Health (MPH) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) to integrate clinical practice with broader health systems and population health strategies. Furthermore, my specialized skills include a CCPU Neonatal certification, enabling me to perform extensive point-of-care ultrasounds for complex neonatal diagnoses such as congenital heart disease and IVH. I actively contribute to academic knowledge as a Conjoint Associate Lecturer at the University of Sydney, and have an extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals such as Acta Paediatrica and the Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health.

A key aspect of my professional identity is my passion for leadership, quality improvement, and education. I have spearheaded numerous service development initiatives, including establishing a neonatal outreach sleep service and developing new policies to guide the escalation of care for deteriorating preterm infants. My leadership is evident in my ability to mentor junior staff, lead multidisciplinary teams during complex neonatal retrievals, and organize simulation-based training. My research interests, particularly in the long-term implications of hypothyroxinemia of prematurity and the management of sleep-disordered breathing in infants, reflect my drive to improve outcomes for our most vulnerable patients, always emphasizing a family-centered approach to care.
