Introduction

I am Dr. Betu Rama Soujanya, a dedicated Clinical Microbiologist currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology at Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore. My medical journey began with an MBBS from SDM College of Medical Sciences, Dharwad, followed by an MD in Microbiology from M S Ramaiah Medical College, where I honed my diagnostic skills. Prior to my current faculty position, I gained extensive clinical experience as a Senior Resident at prestigious institutions like BMCRI and Ramaiah Medical College, and also served in the Emergency Department at Fortis Hospitals. This diverse background allows me to effectively combine clinical insights with laboratory medicine while training the next generation of medical and allied health professionals.

I have actively pursued advanced specialization to broaden my diagnostic capabilities, specifically in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and Medical Mycology. I am a Certified Infection Control Professional (CICP) and hold a Diploma in Infection Prevention and Control from the University of Hyderabad. Furthermore, I completed a Fellowship in Medical Mycology at Sri Ramachandra Institute, Chennai, and an Infectious Disease Primer course from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. My technical expertise extends to managing NABL-accredited laboratories and utilizing advanced molecular techniques, having recently trained in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and ISO 15189 quality standards to ensure precision in diagnostic workflows.

My professional focus is deeply rooted in Diagnostic Stewardship and the fight against Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). I have contributed to the scientific community through research publications in international journals, covering topics such as Brucellosis, bacterial virulence factors, and rare fungal infections like Pythium insidiosum. I am an active member of several global and national bodies, including the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), and the Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists (IAMM). My ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between advanced laboratory diagnostics and patient care to improve clinical outcomes and hospital safety.
