I’m Dr. Anjali Bhardwaj, a
passionate educator and botanist working in the field of plant sciences.
Currently I’m working as an Assistant Professor in Botany. I’ve been working in
the field of plant sciences since 2019, focusing on the impact of climate
change and heat stress in legumes. I have a PhD in Botany from Panjab
University, Chandigarh under the supervision of Prof. Harsh Nayyar and I’m skilled in research, teaching, and community
outreach programs. I have published 10 articles in peer reviewed International
journals and presented numerous posters in conferences. Additionally, I have
worked as a research fellow in an International project funded by International
Centre for Agricultural Research in the dry area (ICARDA), Morocco. My research
is centered on understanding how food crops—especially legumes—responds to heat
and drought stress at molecular and physiological levels, with the goal of
improving crop resilience and yield under climate change. We have investigated how
plants maintain membrane stability, water content, chlorophyll levels, and
antioxidant activity under stress, changes in enzyme activities and metabolites
that impact plant growth and yield during stress . along with that, my
work involves screening germplasm for stress-tolerant traits, analyzing chlorophyll
stability, enzyme activities, and nutrient retention during seed filling under
high temperatures. Using omics tools (genomics, proteomics,
metabolomics), our team have identified key genes and pathways associated with
stress tolerance. My studies support the development of climate-resilient crop
varieties, ensuring food security and nutritional quality in vulnerable
agro-ecosystems.
