Introduction


Dr. Amarpreet Singh is working as a Senior Scientist (Agronomy) at ICAR-Central Institute for Cotton Research (ICAR-CICR), Regional Station, Sirsa, Haryana 125 055, India. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Government Brijindra College, Faridkot, Punjab, India (under Punjabi University, Patiala, Punjab, India); Master’s degree in Agronomy from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, Punjab, India and Doctoral degree in Agronomy from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. He obtained (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) ICAR’s JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) during M.Sc. (Agronomy) degree programme. He has received GOLD MEDAL for Outstanding Academic Performance in M.Sc. (Agronomy) degree programme; obtained (Indian Agricultural Research Institute) IARI’s SRF (Senior Research Fellowship) during Ph.D. (Agronomy) degree programme; obtained GOLD MEDAL (IARI MERIT MEDAL) for outstanding performance during Ph. D. (Agronomy) degree programme; FAI (Fertiliser Association of India) Golden Jubilee Award for Outstanding Doctoral Research in Fertiliser Usage; The Mosaic Company Foundation Award for Outstanding Doctoral Research in the area of Plant Nutrition 2014-15 and the Indian Society of Agronomy (ISA) Best Ph. D. Thesis Award. He has also received ‘Young Scientist Award’; ‘Scientist of the Year Award’ and ‘Excellence in Research Award’. He has a diverse experience of more than 14 years in agricultural research in general and agronomic research related to fibre crops (cotton, jute and ramie etc.) and cropping systems, in particular. His research agenda is field and farmer oriented, focusing on research, development and evaluation of new and emerging technologies for improved crop production. He has developed / evaluated various technologies related to agronomy of fibre crops (cotton, jute and ramie etc.), nutrient management in cropping systems (e.g. cotton-wheat and rice-wheat), agronomic bio-fortification of cereals, plant nutrition, weed management and conservation agriculture etc. along with his team mates as Principal Investigator as well as Co- Principal Investigator. He has also served as Scientist-In-Charge of Ramie Research Station, Sorbhog, Barpeta, Assam a regional station of ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore for two years. He has published more than one hundred research papers in national and international journals of repute, popular / technical articles, conference papers and book chapters etc.
