An important and neglected part of midwifery is considering emotional aspect of mother during antenatal and postnatal stages. This article highlights the important psychological variations occurs at postnatal
period. Baby blues are characterized by mild depression and mood swings as well as tearfulness, sadness, sleep problems, irritability, anxiety, changes in appetite and eating behaviors, and problems concentrating. Postpartum depression shares many same symptoms as the baby blues but the symptoms last longer and are more severe. Postpartum psychosis is an extremely rare and serious disease characterized by depressive symptoms along with delusions and/or hallucinations. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS)
is a validated screening tool for postpartum depression. Assess if the patient has any physical problemsthat are presenting for depression. Various psychopharmacological and psychotherapies are available for
the treatment of these disorders.

Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful gifts of the God. According to The World Health Organization, prevalence of smoking among women in developed countries is comparatively higher than underdeveloped
countries. The level of nicotine and thiocyanate in the blood of pregnant women is 20%–30%. Smoking during pregnancy, affects maternal and fetal health. It affects the fertility, perinatal mortality and increased
risk of spontaneous abortion among women while, low birth weight and preterm birth among infants. In addition, it is also associated with increased risks of ectopic pregnancies, placenta praevia, pre-eclampsia,
and reduced foetal outcomes including mortality, low birth weight, and sudden infant death syndrome. Moreover, small for gestational age (SGA), shorter length and smaller head circumference at birth are
reported among infants as an outcome of maternal smoking. Educational interventions regarding antitobacco campaigns and quit-smoking initiatives should be planned and implemented for pregnant women. There is need of sensitization regarding cessation of smoking among pregnant women.

The close dermal contact between labouring woman and her newborn baby is a part of baby rising that may simpler and free from complication to a few, however its viewed as unique practice to mothers. This
close contact expands the level of oxytocin in the mother’s blood. There are some investigation indicated that this contact diminishes length of 3rd phase of labour and start of bosom breastfeeding. Therefore to
evaluate the effect of mother and newborn early SSC on duration of delivery of placenta and first breast feeding and to discover the association between duration of delivery of placenta and first breastfeeding with socio-demographic and obstetrical variables of parturient mothers, a quasi experimental research: non-equivalent post-test only control group deign was used along with total 10 samples were recruited by non probability convenient sampling technique than randomly divided in to two groups (cont. group and
Ex. group). Assessment was performed with the help of data collection tool consists of socio-demographic variable, maternal variable and stop watch for measure the duration of placental delivery and infant
breastfeeding assessment tool scale was used for assessment of first breastfeeding. Result of the studyreveals that 80% mothers in experimental group were delivered placenta within time period 10-15min
while in control group 80% were delivered placenta >15minutes with p value of 0.1364. And about first breastfeeding 80% mothers in the study group has more than 10 score it mean successful breastfeeding
compared to control group 100% mothers has less than 10 score with p value of 0.0317. This study concluded that early SSC may helps to lessen the duration of delivery of placenta and successful first breastfeeding and there is no statistically significant association found with duration of delivery of placenta and first breastfeeding with their socio -demographic and maternal variable.
