Midwifery is a profession which is close to women’s life. Midwifery model of care considers pregnancy and birth as normal physiologic events in a women’s life and uses a more positive approach to childbirth. Midwives work with women in promotions of reproductive health, family planning, preconception care, antenatal care, care during labour and postnatal care including newborn care. Considering the impact midwifery model care can create in improving birth outcomes along with providing a positive birth experience Government of India has started steps for the implementation of midwifery practice initiative. This article discusses about the background and need for midwifery care, framework for midwifery practice and education including competencies of midwives and opportunities and challenges for midwifery practice in India.

Menstruation is a normal, healthy occurrence for many years in life. Yet many women, across a range of different cultures, experiences menstrual problem that range from mild discomfort to acute pain. Although most women have some physical or emotional changes or discomfort linked to menstrual cycle, a small number of about 5% finds that the problems are more serious and may have to seek some kind of treatment. Mint tea can be used for curing Dysmenorrheal. Mint tea can be had twice or thrice a day for best results. The cooling properties of this herb helps to relieve pain and tension associated with Dysmenorrhea. Mint candy will give for day long relief. Using peppermint, spearmint or wintergreen can be used for relieving Dysmenorrhea. For preparing mint tea, take a tablespoon of dried mint leaves and boil it along with a cup of water. Cover it and steep it for fifteen minutes in order to prevent the oil fromevaporating. Drink hot for great results. Mint is also calming and relaxing which is again good for Dysmenorrhea regarding age 4 nursing students (13.33%) were in the age group of18–19 years, 18 nursing students (60%) were in the age group of 20-21 years, 8 nursing students (26.66%) were in the age group of 22–23 years and 0 nursing students belonged to the 24–25 age group with Regard to religion 21 (70%) were Hindu, 6 (20%) were Christian, 2 (6.66%) were Muslim, 1 (3.33%) were Sikh and 0 are from the others regarding the educational status. 18 (60%) belong to B.sc Nursing course and 12 (40%) belong to General nursing and midwifery course regarding the dietary status 13 (43.33%) are vegetarian, 9 (30%) are non vegetarian and 8 (26.66%) are eggetarianmajority, i.e. 53.33% of nursing students had moderate pain, 43.33% of nursing students had mild level of pain and 3.33% of nursing students had severe pain. Regarding the age of menarche 15 (50%) from the age group of 13 years, 7 (23.33%) from age group of 14 and 12 and 1 (3.33%) from age group of 11 years. Analyzing the time duration of menstrual cycle were 14 (46.66%) time duration from 4-5 days, 11 (36.66%) time duration from 6–7 days, 5 (16.66%) time duration from 2–3 days and 0 time duration from 8-9 days. The duration of menstruation cycle 19 (63.33%) has regular menstrual cycle and 11 (36.66%) has irregular menstrual cycle.

Stem cells therapy is one of the most challenging areas in the medical research. The goal of the stem cells therapy studies is to improve the human enhancement and to reduce some of the medical problems and diseases by using stem cells as a treatment. Stem cells have the ability to build every tissue in the human body. Hence, they have great potential for future therapeutic uses in tissue regeneration and repair. The discovery of stem cells has led to a revolution in modern medicine. Stem cells from umbilical cord blood are known to treat nearly 80 diseases, and have been used in more than 20,000 transplants worldwide. This study was set out to assess effectiveness of structured teaching programme on stem cell therapy and its importance in experimental group by Quasi-experimental, Non-equivalent or Non-randomized control group design non probability, purposive sampling. STP was developed to assess the effectiveness. The results of the study revealed that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test knowledge on stem cell and cord blood banking among antenatal mothers at p = 0.001 level.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a condition in which woman has an imbalance of female sex hormones. This may lead to changes in the menstrual cycle, cyst in the ovary, failure to conceive and causes other health problems. It affects 5% to 10% of women in their reproductive age group and is the leading cause of infertility.1 Purpose of the study was to assess the knowledge on polycystic ovarian syndrome among adolescent girls with a view to prepare a self instructional module regarding PCOS in selected colleges at Coimbatore. Quantitative approach with a descriptive design was adopted. Samples were selected by simple random sampling techinique. Knowledge on PCOS was assessed by structured questionnaire followed by the distribution of self-instructional module. Results revealed that Majority of the adolescent girls had inadequate knowledge on polycystic ovarian syndrome and there is no significant association between level of knowledge with selected demographic variables.

One of the most significant of the twentieth century the disposable diaper or (“nappy”) continues to explore rapidly in the early twenty-first century becoming smaller, cheaper, easier to use, friendlier to the environment and increasing every year. Today more than nine times of every two diaper changes in the developed world, and growing percentages else where are disposables. Diaper rash, also known as diaper dermatitis, is inflammation of the skin that appears on the skin under a diaper, notably in toddlers from age 1 to 3 years, with the highest incidence found in age of 1 to 5 years. However, this concern may be also seen in adults who wear diapers for incontinence of urine or stool. As one of the most common skin conditions in toddlers, diaper rash was reported to account for approximately 20% of all pediatric office visits. Although the disorders are not usually life- threatening, it may cause erythema and itching in the affected areas of toddlers and may cause significant distress for parents.

Anemia is a major nutritional problem in many parts of the world among adolescent girls, especially in developing countries. A descriptive study is used to assess effectiveness of self instructional module on low cost iron rich diet recipes among under graduate students at selected Nursing colleges of Nagpur city. The sample of study includes 150 under graduate students. The result were analyzed and interpreted. In demographic variables, maximum undergraduate students were in age group of 18–20 year 144 (96%), 4 (2.67%), 2(1.33%) were having education of basic B.Sc. Nursing 1st year. Maximum undergraduate students are from urban area 77 (51.33%). The knowledge score according to rating scale in pre-test was good and in posttest was very good. Mean score of pre-test was 14.72 and standard deviation was 3.72. Mean score of post-test was 18.62 and standard deviation was 4.81. Study reveals that mean post -test score was higher than pre-test score, thus the actual gain in knowledge is increased by 41%. Thus the study concludes that a self-Instructional module on low cost iron rich recipes and helps to improve knowledge of undergraduate students.

Adolescence is a time of moving from the immaturity of childhood into the maturity of adulthood. Period of life from puberty to adulthood characterized by marked physiological changes, development of sexual feelings, efforts toward the construction of identity, and a progression from concrete to abstract though. Objective: The aim of this study was assess the knowledge on home remedies for dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls at SRM college of nursing and to associate the knowledge on home remedies for dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls at SRM college of nursing with their demographic variables. Methods: Quantitative approach and non-experimental descriptive research design was used. The data collection included two parts. Part A: Demographic variables, Part B: A Structured questionnaire to assess knowledge on home remedies for dysmenorrhea. 52 Adolescent girls who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were selected as samples using non probability convenient sampling technique. The study was conducted at SRM College of Nursing, Kancheepuram dt. Results: The data were analyzed and interpreted based on the objectives using descriptive and inferential statistics. Among adolescent girls 82.7% of them had Moderately adequate knowledge, 17.3% of them had Inadequate knowledge and none of them had adequate knowledge. The p-values regarding the demographic variables “Place of Living and Occupation” are significant at 5% level of significance. Conclusion: Statistical report states that the prevalence rate of dysmenorrhea in India was 81%, so health education can essential for improvement of knowledge regarding the dysmenorrhea.
