Congenital anomalies can contribute to long term disability which may have significant impacts on individuals, families, health care systems, and societies.Hence, the investigator intended to conduct a study to assess the effect of video assisted teaching on knowledge regarding fetaldevelopment among primigravida mothers in selected hospital, Thrissur. The objective of the study was to assess the level of knowledge on fetal development among primigravida mothers, evaluate the effect of VAT on knowledge regarding fetal development among primigravida mothers and to find out association of the level of knowledge regarding fetaldevelopment among primigravida mothers with their selected demographic variables. Pre experimental design – one group pre test post test design based on Modified J W Kenny’s Open System Model (1999) was used. 30 primigravida mothers whose gestational age fall within 24 weeks were selected by purposive sampling technique. Structured knowledge questionnaire on fetal development was administered to primigravida mothers and pre test knowledge on fetal development, consequently VAT on fetal development was given. After 7 days the post test was assessed. The result revealed that the mean pre test score was 13. 47 and after the administration of VAT it was increased to 15.77. The calculated‘t’ value was found to be 14.36 with p value < 0.001 which is highly significant at 0.01 level. There was a true increase found in the post test knowledge score than the pre test score. There is also an association found between knowledge on fetal development with selected demographic variable ie, age of the mother. Thus the study concluded that the VAT on fetal development was effective in improving the knowledge of primigravida mothers.

Elderly are more prone to age related diseases and physical inability. Adequate health services for the ageing population are an urgent social need. Many nurses are not effectively prepared to care for aging individual. Hence, the study was undertaken in a selected hospital at Thrissur to assess the effect of geriatric care module on knowledge and practice among staff nurses. The objectives of the study were to evaluate the effect of geriatric care module on knowledge and practice among staff nurses, to find out the correlation between knowledge and practice on geriatric care among staff nurses and to find out the association of knowledge and practice on geriatric care among staff nurses with their selected demographic variables. The design of the study was quasi experimental one group pre-test post-test design conducted among 30 staff nurses. Pre-test was done using structured knowledge questionnaire and structured self reported checklist for assessing the practice. After that, the researcher administered the geriatric care module and post-test was done after 7 days. The pre-test and post-test mean knowledge score were 15.6 and 36.4 respectively and pre-test and post-test mean practice score were 46.4 and 56.2 respectively. The result also showed no positive correlation between the knowledge and practice among staff nurses (r = 0.344, p = 0.063). Significant association was found only with the knowledge and the religion, number of years of clinical experience, educational qualification and types of family among the staff nurses. There was no association between practice with their selected demographic variables. Thus the study concluded that geriatric care module was effective.

The research project attempts to assess the level of knowledge regarding risk factor of Cholelithiasis among the patients coming to AIIMS Patna. The objectives of the research project were to assess the level of knowledge regarding risk factors of cholelithiasis among adults, and association between knowledge of risk factor of cholelithiasis in selected demographic variables. The conceptual framework of the study was developed on the basis of Roy’s Adaptation Model. Quantitative approach was used for the research project. The study was carried out in AIIMS Patna. The research project comprised of 100 samples. Pilot study was conducted in 10 samples and the tool was found to be not feasible because samples were unable to answer the questions, therefore questions were modified and the research project was started. The reliability coefficient for the structured questionnaire was calculated by split-half technique and it was found r=0.73. Data was collected by administering a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The result of the research project showed that most of the samples (69%) have an average knowledge and 26% samples have good knowledge and 5% of samples had poor knowledge. The findings of the research project support the need for health education regarding risk factor of cholelithiasis so that there will be an improvement in their daily living practices and prevention of disease.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the knowledge of bio-medical waste management among hospital attendants at AIIMS Patna. The objective of the study is to assess the level of knowledge of hospital attendants regarding bio-medical waste management and to find an association of the level of knowledge of hospital attendants with selected demographic variables. The conceptual framework of the study was developed on the basis of Roy’s Adaptation Model. Methodology nonexperimental descriptive approach was used. The study was carried out at AIIMS Patna. The sample comprised of 60 hospital attendants of AIIMS Patna selected by convenient sampling. Pilot study was conducted on 6 samples and the tools were found to be reliable. Data collection was done from 10th March 2017 to 18th march 2017. Data was collected by administering a structured knowledge questionnaire. The result of this study showed that most of the hospital attendants had average knowledge (48.3%) about Bio-medical waste management. About 28.3% of the hospital attendants had good knowledge and 23.4% hospital attendants have poor knowledge regarding Bio-medical waste management. A relationship between the level of knowledge of hospital attendants and selected variables were noticed. The finding of this study supports the need of health education and training programme for the hospital attendants regarding Bio-medical waste management.

Occupational health is neglected public health issues among the healthcare workers. Lack of adequate knowledge regarding the prevention of occupational hazards may be life threatening. Hence the study was undertaken toevaluate the effect of structured teaching programme on knowledge and practice regarding prevention of occupational health hazards among Class IV workers in selected hospital, Thrissur. The other objectives of the study were to assess the pre test knowledge and practice scores to correlate the knowledge and practices of Class IV workers and to find out the association of knowledge and practices with selected demographic variables. A preexperimental one group pretest post test design was adopted for the study. It was conducted over 30 Class IV workers and was selected by using purposive sampling technique. Pre test was done using structured knowledge questionnaire and self-reported practice checklist. After that, the researcher rendered structured teaching programme regarding prevention of occupational health hazards. Post test was done after seven days and analysis showed that there was a significant increase in knowledge and practice after rendering structured teaching programme. The pre test and post test mean of knowledge scores were 12.67 and 20.70, and practice score were 11.70 and 14.73, respectively. The findings also showed that there was no correlation between knowledge and practice (r=0.355, p=0.054). The significant association was found only with the practice and age of Class IV workers. Thus, the study concluded that structured teaching programme was effective in improving knowledge and practice regarding prevention of occupational health hazards.
