SturgeWeber syndrome is a rare congenital neurological and skin disorder. The pathognomic features of disease include angioma of the leptomeninges, facial nevus, convulsions and gingival hyperplasia. In the present case, a 30yearold male patient presented with a port wine stain on the right side of the face, dilated blood vessels of the right eye, epilepsy and intraorally with gingival enlargement in both maxillary and mandibular arches.

Microteaching is a teacher training and faculty development technique whereby the teacher reviews a recording of a teaching session, in order to get constructive feedback from peers and/or students about what has worked and what improvements can be made to their teaching techniques. Microteaching is a platform for beginner teachers to improve teaching competencies.

Histopathology is the study of biologic tissues using a microscope to appreciate the diseased cells. It includes many processes from fixation till staining of the tissues using various chemical products. Though natural products are cost effective and nonhazardous, the efficiency and commercial availability of chemical products makes them indispensable. Exposure to the chemicals used in these processes cause various health hazards to the laboratory technicians, pathologists, and scientists working in the laboratory. Hence, there is a dire need to introduce healthy and biofriendly alternatives in the field. This literature review stress about the natural products and their efficiency to be used as alternatives for chemicals in the histopathology lab.

Background: Tongue lesions determine the general and oral health status of the individual. The present study aimed to describe the prevalence of the various tongue lesions in the south Indian population. Material and Methods: In this cross sectional study 1760 subjects, 772 females and 988 males were examined clinically for the presence of various tongue lesions. Information about patient age, gender, medical history, habits, tongue lesion and associated symptoms were obtained. Results: Four seventy two patients (26.82%) of 1760 subjects had tongue lesions with higher prevalence in males. The tongue lesion was more prevalent in the group of 3049years. The lesions more frequently observed in decreasing order of prevalence were fissured tongue (30.93%), Pigmented tongue, coated tongue depapillated tongue, geographic tongue, traumatic ulcer, leukoplakia, candidiasis, oral submucous fibrosis, partial ankyloglossia, aphthous ulceration, hairy tongue, oral lichen planus, enlarged foliate papillae, traumatic fibroma and malignant lesion. The systemic disease associated with tongue lesion was diabetes mellitus followed by anaemia, hypertension and gastrointestinal disease. Prevalence of tongue lesion in patients with habit of using tobacco was 15.68 %. Conclusion: The results observed in this population are similar to other studies. Clinically, tongue conditions can be easily diagnosed and this necessitates familiarity and better understanding of common lesions of tongue among the general dental practitioner.

Aim: This study was aimed assess the release pattern of chlorhexidine chip invitro and the efficacy and effect chlorhexidine chip with scaling and root planing in patients with chronic periodontitis. Method: The study was a split mouth design consisting of twenty patients with chronic periodontitis with 57mm pockets. The control sites were treated with scaling and root planing alone where as in the test site chlorhexidine chip was also placed. The clinical parameters recorded were gingival index, plaque index, probing depth and relative attachment level at baseline, 10 days, 21 days and three months. Plaque sample was collected at baseline and at three months for microbial analysis. Results: There was significant improvement in the gingival index, plaque index and probing depth scores and clinical attachment level from baseline to three months in both the groups. There was no significant difference between the groups from baseline to three months. Conclusion: Though the use of chlorhexidine chip in addition to scaling and root planing has shown significant improvement in the clinical parameters, the beneficial effects were found to be only marginally better when compared to scaling and root planing alone.

Context: To understand the study skill patterns in dental Students. Aims: The aim of the study is to find out if there is relationship between study skills and academic performance of dental students. Settings and Design: A cross sectional study was conducted in the department of oral medicine and radiology, 42 dental students, who consented to participate in the study were included.permission was taken from IEC. Methods and Material:” Study skills assessment questionnaire” is taken from counselling services of Houston university the questionnaire was validated by the faculty of our institution. All the students were expected to self assess their study skills scoring was based on a “four choice likert scale”. Data collected was compared with their academic performance based on their university level performance of final BDS percentage of marks. Statistical Analysis Used: Frequency and descriptive analysis was done and chisquare test was applied. Results: Out of 42 dental students, age ranged from 21 to 28 years with a mean of 23.55 for males and 23.32 for females. Percentage of marks ranged from 54.5 to 75 with a mean of 64.38. The overall scores of the study skills ranged from 108219 with a mean of 175.43. Statistically significant results were obtained in all the sections of the questionnaire (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Study strategies have influence on the academic performance and definitely will influence academic achievement. Dental students need to be exposed to study skills and this should be planned by university as well as at institutional level.
