 Ectodermal dysplasia is a rare hereditary disorder. It appear to be inherited as a X-linked recessive trait, with the most common condition among the ectodermal dysplasia's being hypohidrotic (anhidrotic) ectodermal dysplasia also known as Chirst - Siemens - Touraine syndrome . Such patients are characterized by the clinical manifestations of Hypodontia, Hypotrichosis, Hypohidrosis and a highly characteristics facial physiognomy. This article reports about the Prosthodontic management of a typical case of chirst - Siemens - Touraine syndrome.

 The partially edentulous adult offers a unique and problem-rich resource as a basis for a casebased learning scenario in clinical dentistry in the field of planning oral rehabilitation. However, there is little resource material available to help students negotiate the territory between diagnosis and treatment options of discrete conditions and treatment sequencing once decisions have been made. To address the educational void surrounding the teaching and learning of oral rehabilitation strategies, the author has developed a CD-ROM 'Interactive Learning In Prosthodontics: Decision Making In The Oral Rehabilitation Of The Partially & Completely Edentulous Adult'. The disc emphasises the distinction between 'doing' and 'planning to do' in the decision-making process. After using the disc the students should be able to apply a generic framework to formulate a custom oral rehabilitation plan for their own patient. The disc was evaluated by final-year students & interns from the Dept of Prosthodontics, VSPM's Dental College & Research Centre, Nagpur. Response to the program was essentially positive and comments from students have impacted on further development.

 Extensive research within the past half-century has indicated that curcumin (diferuloylmethane), a yellow pigment in curry powder, exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and pro-apoptotic activities. We investigated whether the anticancer activities assigned to curcumin are mediated through its pro-oxidant/antioxidant and preventive DNA damage mechanism. Twenty patient of oral leukoplakia and 50 normal healthy in age group 17-50 years were selected and measured the salivary and serum oxidative markers such as Malonaldehyde, 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine, vitamin C and E just before the given the curcumin ,after curing of lesion. The value of serum and salivary Vitamin C &E showed statistically significant decrease in oral leukoplakia as compared to normal healthy while significantly increased in all groups after given curcumin. MDA and 8-OH dG levels showed statistically significant increase in oral leukoplakia as compared to normal healthy while decreased in all groups after given curcumin. Based on these results we conclude that curcumin mediates its anticancer activities through induced the production of Vitamin C&E, preventation of lipid perioxidation and anti DNA damage.

 Nearly 90-95 % of denture bases are fabricated using acrylic resins. Acrylic resin in many ways comes close to meeting the requirements of an ideal non-metallic denture base material but still it is not without drawbacks. One of the greatest drawbacks is its relatively low resistance to fracture failure. The basic problem that has been faced with the use of polymethylmethacrylate material is the incidence of midline fracture of maxillary denture bases. A number of predisposing factors have been recognized for the incidence of such factors. This study was undertaken to determine whether the shape of the underlying palate combined with the thickness of denture base would affect the strength of base. For the study, 45 denture bases of heat cure acrylic resin were fabricated on 3 different shapes of the palate and of 3 different thicknesses and then all these samples were tested for fracture toughness under the universal testing machine and the results were analysed.

Fear is one of the most commonly encountered problems in dentistry. This article discusses about a non pharmacological method of treating fear. Many patients were found to be benefitted by this method. Patients unlearn the sense of fear and relearn a sense of safety. Non threatening words are used and preparatory communication is practiced. A Brief Review Recent research has fielded conflicting data regarding the relationship between dental disease, and systemic effect such as diabetes, pneumonia, cardiovascular disease, preterm delivery of low birth-weight infants and preeclampsia. A causative relationship would have major ramifications for health care. There is a plausible theoretical basis for such a link, as increased levels of inflammatory mediators may increase the risk of atherosclerotic plaque formation. Postulated mechanisms include translocation of periodontal pathogens to the fetoplacental unit and action of a periodontal reservoir of lipopolysaccharides or inflammatory mediators. Hence, periodontal treatments and oral hygiene instructions are essential to prevent future complications among those with periodontitis.
