Cervical cancer is the second most common gynecological malignancy in Indian women. It usually spreads locally or via regional lymphatic to retroperitoneal lymph nodes and hematogenous spread is rare. The occurrence of distant bony metastasis is a very rare event and only a few cases have been reported in literature. We present an unusual case of carcinoma cervix in a patient that presented with proximal ulna metastasis 7 months after treatment.

This case report describes the challenging airway management in a 50-year-old female patient with squamous cell carcinoma of left buccal mucosa with goiter and hyperthyroidism. The patient presented with a non-healing ulcerating growth on the left cheek and required Commando Surgery. Traditional airway management methods such as bag-mask ventilation and tracheostomy were not viable due to edematous larynx presence of a large goiter. Initial attempts at awake fiberoptic intubation were unsuccessful due to swelling in the vocal cords. The patient received anti-inflammatory medications to reduce the swelling and subsequently underwent successful nasal intubation. The surgery was completed without complications, and the patient was extubated after 48 hours. This case emphasizes the importance of meticulous airway planning and the use of alternative techniques in patients with limited mouth opening and airway abnormalities.

Aim: To identify the most reproducible technique of patient positioning and immobilization in patients with carcinoma cervix.

Background: Radiotherapy aims at controlled killing of tumors cells without harming the normal tissue surrounding the disease. The basic aim of radiotherapy planning is to ensure adequate coverage of target with the planned dose and to save the normal tissue. Adequate margins for setup errors are necessary, the margins applied must not be huge as that would adversely affect normal tissue. This study compares the knee rest with thermoplastic pelvic cast in patients with carcinoma cervix with an aim of identifying the most reproducible method.

Material and methods: Cross-sectional study was done in patients of carcinoma cervix undergoing radiotherapy from April 2021 to June 2022 at our institution. Immobilization was performed on 20 patients (Thermoplastic pelvic cast i.e., Pelvic cast pelvic masks=10, Kneerest=10). The systemic error, random error and planning target volume (PTV) margins were calculated for both the techniques and statistically analysed.

Result: The systemic error in lateral (x-axis), longitudinal (y-axis) and vertical (z-axis) in thermoplastic pelvic cast and knee rest are 0.61cm, 0.39cm, 0.15cm and 0.17cm, 0.4cm, 0.32cm respectively. Random error are lateral (x-axis), longitudinal (y-axis), and vertical (z-axis) are 0.07cm, 0.63cm, 0.08cm and 0.10cm, 0.44cm, 0.22cm. CTV-PTV margin using van herk’s formula in lateral (x-axis), longitudinal (y-axis) and vertical axis (z-axis) using thermoplastic pelvic cast and knee rest are 1.59cm, 1.44cm, 0.44cm and 0.49cm, 1.31cm, 0.96cm respectively. CTV-PTV margin using Stroom’s formula in lateral (x-axis), longitudinal (y-axis) and vertical axis (z-axis) using thermoplastic pelvic cast and knee rest are 1.28cm, 1.24cm, 0.36cm and 0.41cm, 1.11cm, 0.80cm respectively.

Conclusion: Among the two techniques, knee rest technique is least time consuming and most economically viable in developing countries.

Objectives: Cancer related anemia is common comorbid treatable condition with potential impact on treatment response and quality of life. Data on treatment with ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) an i.v. iron preparation in cancer related anemia due to iron deficiency in Indian patients is sparse.

Materials and Methods: In this retrospective medical record based study, data of 147 patients with solid organ malignancies and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) who received FCM were retrieved. Hematological parameters i.e. hemoglobin (Hb), serum ferritin and transferrin saturation (TSAT) were analyzed at baseline (i.e. before FCM administration) and at 4 weeks. Serious adverse events which were recorded in source documents on day of FCM infusion were collected.

Results: At the baseline, mean Hb was 8.7±1.2 gm/dl. At end of 4 weeks there was a statistically significant improvement in the mean Hb level of 9.79±0.87 (p value <0.001). The mean serum ferritin and serum TSAT level also showed a significant improvement (p value for both < 0.001). No SAE were recorded on day of FCM administration
