Venous ulcer develops at around and above the medial malleoli of foot and occurs as a result of recanalization of DVT (deep vein thrombosis). These ulcers are often large in size, non-healing, tender and recurrent with secondary infection. In this case report a 73 years old male patient of varicose ulcer at medial malleolus of right foot was visited in OPD. Patient had complaints of severe throbbing pain, watery discharge, swelling in right foot and large ulcer (12cm x 10cm) at medial malleolus. The pus culture report showed absence of microorganism (Bacteria and fungus). So this case was diagnosed as non infected varicose ulcer and was successfully treated with herbal paste of Katupilla (Securinega leucopyrus). Wound was cleaned with normal saline and then applied paste of S. leucopyrus leaves powder mixed with sesame oil daily once in the morning. Along with this crepe bandage applied at affected part above ankle joint and Rasayan powder (Ayurved medicine) 5gm orally two times a day was given. Wound healed completely within two months of treatment without any complication. Hence this case highlighted that varicose ulcer can be treated with local application of S. leucopyrus paste.

A 26 years old female diagnosed with Restless leg syndrome with complains of irresistible urge to move lower limbs during night times, difficulty in falling asleep during night times, fatigue during day time, and depression for 2 years has visited Travancore Ayurveda, a panchakarma clinic. Based on clinical features it was considered under Vata vyadhi. This condition occurs more frequently in females and common in young age. There are no specific tests for RLS, but non-specific laboratory tests are used to rule out other causes such as vitamin deficiencies. In the present paper we are presenting a case successfully treated with different Ayurvedic treatments for a period of 28 days. After the treatment patient was on oral medications for a period of 90 days. After the treatment the patient is feeling much better and relieved from above complains.

Background: Snake bite, till date remains a public health hazard in tropical countries, especially In India. A detailed review of Ayurvedic literature a unique “vishae and prativisha” concept explains Sthavar visha (vegetable poison) and jangama visha (animate poison) both kinds of poison destroy or neutralizes each other’s effects when used against each other. Thus in the present study Vatsanabha (Aconitum Ferox) was taken as Prativisha (antidote) against cobra venom (Naja naja) toxicity.

Methods: The lyophilized snake venom of cobra (Naja naja) LD50 0.49 mg/kg of rat dose was injected i.p and Snake venom antiserum was used as reference standard drug. Vatsanabha (Aconitum Ferox) given orally in two different classical dose as Madhyama (medium) & Uttama (high) dose as 16.83 mg/kg & 22.5 mg / kg body weight respectively in III & IV test group and evaluated its effect against venom on survival time, neurological observational signs, hematological parameters & Histopathology for Liver & heart.

Results: The survival time in test (III) group (87.2±23.8 min) was observed to be increased as compared to venom (II) group (71.8±14.8 min). Reverse changes are found in all biochemical parameters. Statistically reverse changes (p<0.01) was found in Neutrophils, monocytes & SGOT. Histopathology reports of liver & heart of test III group show mild (+) or absent (0) when compared to the Venom Group (+++=severe).

Conclusion: By considering the oral limitation, Vatsanabha has not shown direct Antidotal activity but there was an increase in survival time. The test III group has shown statistically reverse changes on neutrophils, monocytes & SGOT levels. The test III group (madhyama dose) had shown good protection on liver & heart cells against cobra venom (Naja naja) induced toxicity which suggests Vatsanabha may contain an endogenous inhibitor of venom-induced cell damage.

Android mobiles and social media applications are the most useful inventions done in recent era which connects people from different place without any undue delay. They help to share voice, video, picture or even documents with the use of android phone along with internet facility. Recently most of the people majorly adolescent group has been found to use these social media’s (Whats app particularly) excessively leading to disturbance in the lifestyle, personality and is affecting even their academic performance.

Aims: 1. To evaluate Abuse of mobile phones 2. To evaluate abuse of Social media application (what’s app and Messenger) 3. To evaluate effect of abuse of social Media application on academic performance.

Settings and Design: A cross sectional cohort observational study.

Methods and Material: 500 Students who are studying Ayurveda were voluntarily involved for the study. A questionnaire was developed with both close-ended and open ended questions to assess the demographics of youngsters studying Ayurveda, their smart phone details, Ranking of mobile as a necessity of life, Ranking of What’s App features, Consumption of data in what’s App usage, and intensity of usage. The open ended questions gave the samples a chance to express their views about what’s App messenger and to list out some of the features that they like the most in the app.

Results: it is found out that 116 students were considered to be severely addicted, 246 are moderately built, 138 are mildly addicted to usage of Phone and whatsapp. Majority of the study participants opined that excessive usage of Mobile and whats app is directly affecting Emotional behaviour as well as Academic performances.

Conclusions: This study gives an input about adverse impact of life styles and culture of youth especially in their studies. What’s app is mainly affecting Students Academics, Language and is making poor Spelling skills in typing and is the major disadvantages of its misuse. More gossips and dependency is created due to misuse of what’s app and if not controlled in the early step will leads to dependency and in future may require psychiatric help also.

There are several Kaya Chikitsa (General Medicine) diseases where surgical interventions are explained by Charaka. In the present article Sushruta’s view regarding Rakta Mokshana (Bloodletting) in few Kaya Chikitsa diseases are highlighted on the context of Shat Kriya Kala (Pathogenesis). If the Rakta Mokshana is done on regular basis it will help to remove the vitiated (humors) doshas along with it and thus may helpful to prevent some of the diseases. The concept of Rakta-Mokshana could be understood if we look the concept of Shat Kriya Kaala (Pathogenesis in disease formation) where Sushruta has given importance to (Blood) Rakta as one of the important channel in transportation of Doshas (humors) besides Vata Dosha. A person accustomed to Bloodletting enjoys a kind of immunity from skin diseases, Granthi (Cyst), Shopha, (swelling) and diseases caused by vitiated blood.
