This book focuses on the formal diversity of the caves. The entire text comprises of four chapters namely chapter I which explains the detailed general idea on the caves, their types, formation as well as caves of Odisha. The last part of this chapter contain the detailed review of literature relating to the study and research on caves.
Chapter II elaborates the methodology followed for the study of faunal diversity in caves. The faunal assemblage and association in caves are analysed in Chapter III.
The entire text is summersised in chapter IV. Finally the book is concluded with the elaborative references pertaining to the study of caves.
The readers and researchers would certainly be benefitted from this text. Helpful criticism, addition correction or other comments are most welcome and may be addressed to the authors.

Dr Srianga Tilak Patnaik was born on 03rd july 1980, completed his Ph.D. from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha under the guidance of Prof. Bhikari Charana Guru and Col. Prof. Prafulla Kumar Mohanty. At present he is serving as the Assistant Professor of Zoology, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He has guided one Ph.D. scholar, 25 M.Sc. students and currently two students are engaged for Ph.D. under his supervision. Number of research papers and articles are published to his credit. He is pioneer in the field of speleology in Eastern India. Apart from teaching, he has been serving in various capacities such as CTO NCC, NSS Officer, Examination, admission in charge, Vice President of different societies, member, advisor and chairman of different committees.
Born on 01st March, 1958 at Puri, Odisha, Col. Prof. Prafulla Kumar Mohanty obtained of M.Sc. and M.Phil. in 1980 and 1983, respectively in Zoology from the Utkal University and Ph.D. from the Sambalpur University in 1996. He has authored 37 books which include Dictionary, Glossary, Translated book, Textbook, Book Chapter in Encyclopaedia, Monograph, Quiz books and Popular Science Books. He has published 568 popular science articles in different magazines. His research domain is based upon tasar silk and Cytogenetics and he has published 221 research papers. For his contribution to scientific research and science communication, he has received 16 awards from different organisations including state DST, Goverment of Odisha. Immediately after obtaining M.Sc. degree, he joined the University service in 1981 and served the University for more than 36 years in the capacity of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader, Professor, Head and Dean, Faculty of Science. 35 scholars have been awarded Ph.D. degree under his supervision and currently 03 are engaged in research work. Presently, He has served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Khallikote Unitary University, Brahma Vihar, Brahmapur, Odisha, 760 001.
Prof. Bhikari Charan Guru has served as Professor, Postgraduate Department of Zoology, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He has 40 years of teaching and 45 years of research experience in the field of Environmental Biology. 4 species of aquatic mites have been named after him. He has guided 2 D.Sc. scholars, 29 Ph.D. scholars, many M.Phil. scholars. After retirement from the Utkal University, he has servied as Advisor, Quality Assurance Cell (QAC), Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He has written three books and 70 research papers. He is the Fellow, Zoological Society of India (FZSI) and Fellow National Environmental Association (FNEA).
