We report a case of carcinoma tongue, which presented with calvarium metastasis during treatment, as a part of distant spread. This patient was then treated with palliative chemotherapy.

Crown fractures of maxillary incisors are common form of dental injuries which affects mainly children and adolescents for which patients seek immediate dental treatment. The position of maxillary incisors poses them to significant risk for trauma. During pre-adhesive era fractured tooth used to get restored with either pin retained inlays or cast restoration with acrylic/porcelain facing that use to sacrifice a lot of healthy tooth structure which can be catastrophic for younger children.Recently due to advances in adhesive dentistry an immediate reattachment of the intact fractured tooth fragment is possible if an intact fragment is available which is most conservative. Reattachment of fragment provides good long lasting esthetics with original tooth contour, color. This article presents one such case report of conservative technique of reattachment in a young child using one of the methods which restores original tooth contour, color and aesthetics.

Conscious sedation has become an increasingly important subject in recent years. Its use in dentistry for reconstructive surgery, some cosmetic surgeries, removal of wisdom teeth, or for high anxiety patients has been documented but not widely accepted in day to day practice. It helps establish communication between dentist and patient which is important for establishing trust, easing a patient’s pain, and allowing them to feel they are in control of procedure. The aim is to provide a safe and comfortable anaesthesia while maintaining the patient’s ability to follow commands..The introduction of new anaesthetic applications enables patients to undergo lengthy and complex procedures as outpatients and then promptly and safely be discharged home. The choice and route of anaesthesia administration is paramount to the patient’s overall surgical experience. If, upon discharge, the patient is alert, has minimal pain, and has no nausea or vomiting, then the surgical experience was a positive one. This level of sedation is used for medical procedures in which it is necessary for the patient to be responsive, and also for minor procedures which do not merit the use of general anaesthesia, and for procedures involving patients who cannot cooperate with care providers. Like any form of anaesthesia and sedation, there are some risks to conscious sedation, but it is significantly less dangerous than general anaesthesia.

The objective of this review is to inform practitioners about dentin hypersensitivity and its management. This review provides a general view of the aetiology, characteristics and treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity, so that professionals can use this information in the therapeutic management of this clinical condition. The presenting symptoms of sensitive teeth are multi-factorial, and from the perspective of restorative dentistry, make a differential diagnosis of true dentine hypersensitivity a challenge. Dentin hypersensitivity is diagnosed after elimination of other possible causes of the pain. Desensitizing treatment should be delivered systematically, beginning with prevention and at-home treatments. The latter may be supplemented with in-office modalities. The prevalence of Dentin hypersensitivity varies widely, depending on the mode of investigation. Potassiumcontaining toothpastes are the most widely used at-home treatments. Most in-office treatments employ some form of “barrier”, either a topical solution or gel or an adhesive restorative material. The availability of a wide variety of treatment could be an indicator that there is still no effective desensitizing agent to completely resolve the patient’s discomfort, or that it is difficult to treat, irrespective of the available treatment options.

Inflammatory periodontal disease is one of the most common diseases of mankind. Gingival inflammation is widespread, but advanced periodontitis is limited to relatively small groups of population. Microbial plaque deposits at the dentogingival interface initiate gingivitis. Progression to periodontitis is modified by several environmental, behavioral, biological and healthcare variables. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the available information on the influence of risk factors on progression of periodontitis.

Nutrition is an essential component of health. It is essential to have thorough knowledge of daily dietary requirements in geriatric patients for the maintenance of good oral and general health. Generally as the age advances teeth are lost, along with the diminished olfactory and gustatory receptors .Various factors like physical, social, functional and pharmacological factors are responsible for the malnutrition in the geriatric patients. The nutritional status should be assessed and nutritional strategies should be made to boost immunity and improve nourishment in denture wearers.

Presentation with PowerPoint slides has become a widely used technique in teaching. Although PowerPoint software has provided numerous features to make the presentation more effective g, poor preparation of slides could lead to lower students’ learning. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the quality of PowerPoint slides used in theoretical courses in an Iranian Dental School. A validated check-list was designed according to the criteria mentioned in papers. Teaching slides of 51 professors were collected. Slides were all put into a union file and became blind. An instructed operator filled the check-list for these union files in the same situation of classroom in Mashhad Dental School. Data were qualitatively reported. Total of 2218 slides were collected. 56.5%, 48.3%, and 30.1% of the slides had inappropriate tables and graphs, used complete sentences, had low quality images respectively. Most of the slides had appropriate font size, type, and color and the text and background had good contrast. 6.7% of the slides had misspellings and 5% had inappropriate abbreviations. According to the results of current study, some features of PowerPoint presentation were used inappropriately in the school and it have to be mentioned in faculty staff development workshops.

Aim: To study the root canal morphology in maxillary first and second premolars and classify the canal configuration according to Weine. Materials and Methods: 100 maxillary teeth (50 first premolar and 50 second premolar) were selected for the study. The teeth were cleared using clearing technique. The canal morphology was studied and classified according to Weine. Results: Maxillary first premolars showed 26% type I, 0% type II, 56% type III, 18% type IV configuration and maxillary second premolars showed 34% typeI,12% type II, 42% type III, 12% type IV configuration. Conclusion: The canal configuration studied and classified showed that type III predominated in both maxillary first and second premolars. Clinical significance: This study helps the undergraduate and postgraduate students to know the prevalence of type of canal configuration in maxillary premolars of northern part of Karnataka state, India. Also, helps in knowing the anatomy of teeth so that a successful endodontic therapy can be rendered to the patient.
