Suicidal Deaths in Police Lockup / Prison of North Maharashtra Region: A 15 Year Retrospective Study

Abstract
Retrospective study of suicidal deaths in prison/police lockup of North Maharashtra region from 01/01/2000 to 31/12/2014 was carried out. Total 12 cases of suicide were studied. Suicide by hanging was the commonest method of commiting suicide followed by Head injury and poisoning.  50% of cases were from age group of 20 to 30 years. Based on these findings several measures for prevention of deaths in Police custody are discussed.
